Stream of consciousness thinking ....

Assuming Buzz stays (and I'm not tying to start anything with this statement), and his close relationship with JF, I can see Fulce with MU in a few years as an assistant or director of basketball operations.

Am I wrong in thinking this?

I would not be surprised at all if he took over for Jamie McNeilly next season while he finishes his degree.

I don't really think that's what Joe really would like to do. It seems that his goal is to become a music producer or something in the music industry. If that doesn't work out then yes, maybe he comes back and helps Buzz out.

Buzz stated this would be a strong possibility on his tv show, and went on to say how hard someone is going to have to go after Joe to get Buzz to let him go....fwiw...

Buzz repeated this in his post game last night (after SH).  He will have a tough time letting Joe go and will have to find a way to keep him around.

Many have said that Buzz needs to higher an assistant coach to teach defense.  Meet your 2011/2012 assistant coach Joe Fulce!

Fulce is an invaluable player on this Marquette team. He has overcome injury, knows his role and is good at it and is just one of "those guys" who every team needs to be successful. Definitely a stellar career for Joe! Similar in acceptance of his role to another one of my favorites...Joe Chapman.

I'd love to HIRE Joe as grad assitant to start but hiring your former player to improve your defense is probably as bad as hiring your best buddy director of basketball operations with no real DI experience to your staff without going for a bona fide DI assistant.

Listening to the post-game show on the way home from the BC, I heard Buzz say that he'd like to keep Joe on board in some capacity after this season.  I'd say its very likely he'll be on the staff or here as a grad asst. or whatever.

At minimum someone hired for the role of director of basketball operations should be the son of the coach of the best AAU program in the state of Wisconsin.  Seeing how successful such a hire has been for Tom Crean at Indiana (as all his highest rated incoming 2011 and 2012 recruits are from the same Indiana Elite AAU team) - I see no reason why not to duplicate it at MU - other than maybe choosing an AAU program from more of a talent hot bed such as Texas.

Recently when rivals and scout interviewed the IU recruits, they stated they didn't really want to come to IU to play in state, for one of the top 5 programs in history, a program that almost every Indiana high schooler automatically considers.   The idea of playing within an hour's drive of their home, their friends, girlfriends, etc was also of no interest.  They indicated they only wanted to go to IU because the video coordinator, who is not involved in recruiting at all, but is the reason they decided to come to IU.  They also indicated that despite their same AAU team sending players to IU for more than 3 decades, it was truly because of the video coordinator that they decided to attend.   As for all the players on the Elite team that didn't go to IU, as in the VAST MAJORITY OF THEIR PLAYERS, they sited that the video coordinators at other universities were cuter to look at and decided to take their talents there.

How do you reconcile the exodus of talented players from Indiana that has taken place in the last decade?  IU in the last decade has landed the 2nd and 3rd tier in-state recruits - yet now that there is a re-established relationship between the Indiana Elite and IU - Indiana Elite kids are now choosing IU.  Oddly, it coincides with the time the Indiana Elite's coaches son was hired onto the IU staff.  For good measure, Indiana also threw in a walk on slot on the team to a son of the board of directors of the Indiana Elite.

Personally, I think all of this is a good strategy - why not do as much as you can to incentive the coaches of a great AAU program?

Jaime graduated last Spring and has taken over Nelp's role as Video Coordinator, I believe.  Blair Broadhurst is the Graduate Manager this season.

On the post game show, Buzz said he would try keeping him around because his bad knee will most likely keep him from playing after this season.

I think Joe Fulce is a great guy; speaks well; has great energy; a positive attitude; a great sense of humor and would be a big asset to Marquette University in the athletic department.  Hire him Buzz.

Joe has a great personality and communicates very well.

I could see him doing color for the Big East Network or ESPN3/ESPN2 in a few years if he choose to go that route (after working his way up the ladder).  I think today he'd be better than half the bozo's out there.

Three years, three decades. What's the difference? According to the Dave Telep article on ESPN.com the pipeline from the Indiana Elite to Indiana University began in 2008 when, not coincidently, Tom Crean came to Bloomington. It was accomplished by, among other squirmy things, giving the AAU coach's kid a job.
