Can somebody explain why Junior does not take the open shot.  Has buzz told him not to shoot the ball, he has more open
looks than anybody on the court?  Since they do not practice free throws, do they practice outside shooting?  He seemed to
make some shots in the summer league?  He fakes more than anybody I have ever seen, instead of taking the open shot, he
wants to drive to the hole where 3 guys are waiting?  The college game is all about the point guard scoring, a la, Jordan Taylor?
Next year could be challenging as well?  He is the key to next year.

Everybody (well, the guards) seems to be faking more than shooting.  I wish I knew what got them to scared to shoot.

I thought that there were several opportunities to get the defender in the air and then shoot and have a very high likelihood of getting the foul and maybe the basket too.

I don't know if you're joking or not, but is anybody else concerned that Buzz's autistic-like obsession with "paint touches" leads our players into turnovers and forced shots under the basket? We have more turnovers forcing the damn ball to somebody under the basket or making drives that just aren't there than any team I've seen all year. What the hell are paint touches other than some made up phrase Buzz likes to use. It's worse than Crean's asinine focus on deflections.

WOW PRN...if you dont know why Buzz and every other coach is so obsessed with dribble penetration then there is simply no helping you.

Do you find yourself not understanding what is being discussed in conversations all day long or is it just on internet message boards? It seems to me that your parents gave you a certain degree of confidence, which can be a good thing. In the process, however, they protected you from their knowledge that you are of below average intelligence. You should start understanding that and make plans accordingly.

Guys, calm down, bad mouthing each other, what does that prove?  Dribble penetration like last year was awesome, as 4 members of that team could
hit open threes.  This year we have 1 1/2, not totally sold on Crowder.  Penetration or Paint touches can do the same, hit the open man on a paint touch like last night,  MU missed the three.  This thread started on JC, not where you guys are going!

esotericmindguy

Well PNC, if you've ever played basketball, and understand help defense, you would know that dribble penetration breaks down every defensive philosophy. The problem is that none of the players outside of Butler take a pull up jumper and only 2 players are reliable outside the arc.

NickelDimer

Buycks had a very nice jumper earlier this season and he could pull up off the bounce.  It's now completely gone for some reason and I believe that's a very big part of our struggles offensively

Strawman arguments...great. Do you guys understand was THAT means?

It seems we should be booing the Marquette education, not the players.

Masterr73

Junior has really struggled with his jump shot all year, he has been much better at driving to the net and taking a contested layup or making a back door pass. I feel like Junior has made some strides this year and I am not worried about PG next year

I think PRN is right in some respect. I don't think it is because of paint touches being stressed too much, but I feel we are working too hard to force something that isn't there at times. One play that stuck out to me was in the second half where Vander drove and he was near the elbow, maybe closer to the basket and tried to force it to Crowder. Now I know Vander is in a slump and wants to create, but I would like to see him just go up with a little floater at that point. He was close enough to have a good look at the basket and I think those are shots he should take.

Vander just seems to me like he needs one or two shots that isn't a layup to really click. You can tell he is working hard and is just in a rut right now. It is not just Vander who is at fault. Cadougan, Buycks, DJO and Jimmy seem to do this as well. Cadougan and Blue aren't great shooters, but I'd rather them take that little mid-range shot in the lane once they get down to that point rather than try to fit a ball in a tight spot and get a turnover or the ball hit out of bounds.

Any chance JC starts over Buycks at some point this year? Does another loss make this the logical next move? I realize they had the same amount of TO's last night so it's probably doubtful. I have heard many complain about Buycks today, so I was wondering if this is a legit possibility.
