Now I am no bracketologist... but in my opinion today is most definitely a MUST win for us if we intend on getting into the tournament. Our lack of quality wins (Only Syracuse and Notre Dame) will hurt us and we desperately need this one.

You guys feel the same way... right?

🏀

Nope. Not a must win.

It is a hope we win because it would be really nice, and eliminate some of the sweating some selection time.

Today would be an awesome win, but not a must win.  If we lose today, Tueday vs. the Johnnies gets near the must win territory.

SJU is already a must win.

Must win either today OR Tuesday.  Need to finish above .500 in conference.

WVU, Rutgers and Bucknell are also considered quality wins.

To use a word I saw in a thread on the other board, I think today's game is 'pivotal.' We win and we are are in decent shape, especially as it would likely build some good momentum for a (in theory) manageable part of the schedule. Lose and the pressure really grows. I agree that a loss today means that we likely can't lose any of our home games, beginning with St. Johns.

Hards Alumni

Any combo of 3 wins gets us in.  2 good ones gets us in (GU and Uconn).

Mr. Nielsen

No, this game is not a must win. Hell, let's win it!

It's a must win if we intend on losing one of the other wins we're counting on.

Otherwise, no.

Buchec18

You guys can say what you want, buy in my mind today was a crucial game in our try to get into the tourney. Disappointing we let another one slip away, cannot keep our foot on their throats and cannot make free throws if our life depending on it.

Oh yeah, the refs today SUCKED. Both ways, but down the stretch it really seemed they were making some hometown calls... that technical and all of the stupid ticky-tack foul calls... couldnt lay a finger on anyone without being called for a foul..

On to the next one I guess, but we better start putting together some wins, or our only hope will be the BE tourney, and that will be really easy..................

Based on your "must win" logic Marquette now has a 0% chance of making the tournament.

Lol, well today was a tough loss and I don't know how you guy's dont think it was a must win. If we were to win, we would be feeling a hell of a lot better... instead of now holding our breath as we move onto face St. Johns.

Perhaps you need to be educated on the meaning of the word "must".

So we have a chance to get in even after losing the "must-win" game? This game would have been very nice to win and would have made a nice addition to our resume, but losing this game did not end our tourney hopes.

Mr. Nielsen

Most have MU as an 8 seed. Losing to G'town doesn't drop you to the NIT.

MU needs to win their home games.

I'm assuming that when you mean must, you initially meant this...

Quote from: TheFreeDictionary.comSomething that is absolutely required or indispensable

But now you're saying that "we would be feeling a hell of a lot better...instead of now holding our breath as we move onto face St. Johns." The two don't match up. As it says, must is absolutely required or indispensable. Which means our entire NCAA hopes hinged on today's Georgetown game. I think it's pretty clear to everyone else on the board, and based on that post you made yourself, wasn't the case. Win the games at home and we get to 10-8 even without another road win. There is simply no way in hell that doesn't get us in with the softest bubble in NCAA history.

Okay, seriously stfu.. I said must win and I know what a 'must win' is. I said must win because if we didn't win, which we didn't, our road got a hell of a lot harder. I said must win if we wanted to breathe easier as we try and make the tournament. Get off my back and stop taking your anger out on me.

That basically says to me that if we didn't win this game then we aren't getting in, at least in your view.

What anger? I'm not angry. I'm disappointed we didn't win today, because I think that a win today would have got us in line for a top 4 finish in the Big East and a likely 5-6 seed, but we're still in line for a top half finish and a likely 7-10 seed. I can live with that. Not angry at all.
