Tracy, an alumnus of Marquette University, has worked as a TV reporter in Minneapolis and Milwaukee. Recognized within CBS as a rising star, he will soon be dispatched to a high-profile story of another variety: the royal wedding of Britain’s Prince William and Kate Middleton.

Neat-o.

It's a shame that CBS News has about 13 more people than MUTV's audience watching it.

Hopefully he'll impress enough to move to the big leagues like Fox.

I would hope that an MU grad would have enough journalistic integrity to not work for Fox "news".

I would hope a MU grad would have the sense to work for an organization with millions of viewers on the rise and not one with hundreds of thousands and tanking.

Average A25-54 viewers
NBC Evening News - 2,940,000
ABC Evening News - 2,470,000
CBS Evening News - 1,950,000

FOX "News"      -        594,000 (primetime - Highest # of the day)

Source: The Nielsen Company, NTI Total Viewers and Adults 25-54 Live + SD weeks of 01/24/11, 1/17/11 & 1/25/10

I would hope an MU grad would have the sense to not comment on something they know nothing about. ;)

Oh, you mean the CBS News that had to fire Dan Rather for trying to so hard to influence the outcome of a presidential election that he made up memos and was subsequently fired over this Fiasco?

Oh, but you say, that was the past and now thy are better and they are not like the dunces at Fox that mislabel Egypt on the map.  Try this (this is CBS Journalist standard yesterday)

Katie Couric fires incorrect tweet saying that Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak stepped down

Katie Couric was a little quick with her Twitter finger Saturday.

The CBS News anchor mistakenly informed her 140,000 followers that embattled Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak had stepped down after 30 years.

Not true.

"As many of you have already heard Mubarak has resigned," Couric posted before backing off the report.

---

Yes, given the stellar reputation of the Tiffany network, and the fact that they use to have more than 20 million viewers of the evening news in the 1980s and less than 2 million now (Edward Morrow had more viewers in the 1950s than Couric now), they seem to be doing everything right.

CBS News is financially, intellectually and Journalistically bankrupt.  Their audiences are only getting smaller, their credibility is only going down.  They are digital equivalent of a buggy whip and the sooner a star moves on, the better.

The reason is this happening to evenings news is they long ago abandoned journalist integrity.  To suggest they still have some reflects on you.

Every year since I was at MU (See my handle) CBS Evening News has lost audience.  Fox came into existence in 1996 now has 2.5 milion viewers a day, more than CBS Evening News.  Their audience is largely than all the cable news networks combined.

Fox News Ratings Top Combined Competition In Week Filled With Egypt Coverage

(The mods are probably going to shut down this thread as its is now a political discussion.  Before they do let me say ... CBS News is watched by left-wing democrats.  Fox is watched by right-wing republicans.  To suggest that any broadcast news has "journalist integrity" is laughable.  They are all in the advocacy business.  So, if this is what the "MU Star" wants to do, promote political positions while pretending to be unbiased reporter, then go do it at the place that is growing.  Fox News, not the place that is collapsing, CBS News.)

You are trying to compare a 24-hour cume audience to a program that airs for a half hour?  Seems fair  ::)

If you're a reporter at a cable news network, your possible audience is all day.  If you're a report at CBS, your possibly audience is 22 minutes a day (30 less commercials).

So, what does a "MU Star" do to further his career?  Stay with a dying organization that broadcasts 22 minutes a day or go with a 24 hour organization that has a larger audience combined?
