It seems like three or four times a game DJO gets his defender up in the air with his great shot fake.  Is there a reason he doesn't jump into the guy when he is in the air and throw up a shot?  Even if you miss you will get to the line and draw a foul for the other team.  Steve Novak used to do that quite a bit.

Because this isn't NBA2k8, and DJO is not Sam Cassel.

DJO's Pump Fake

It's what I have been trying to tell him all along!

1. In viewing the thread title, I wasn't sure if TallTitan was calling out "DJO's Pump Fake" the user, or DJO's actual physical pump fake.

2. I agree that he could get to the line more often if he employed a Sam Cassell-type strategy.

3. Doesn't Sam Cassell look like a bald Brandy (singer/actress/amateur dancer)?

I think you need to knock down a few jumpers before a shot fake will get your defender in the air.

Fact: Sam Cassel is the personal PG coach of John Wall.

He is getting his guy in the air already.

DJO has a great shot fake problem is after using it he stands there.  Shot fake dribble drive and dish to the wide open man after forcing help.  He either stands there or drives and throws up a circus shot or spins.  How often has he beat his man of a shot fake...forced help..and dished to the open man?  very very rarely.

That's my point.  He isn't getting anything from the shot fake right now.  Why not use it to drawl fouls and get free throws?

Yes!

The shot fake to draw a good number of fouls is a learned skill that not everyone can pick up easily.

Multiple people in this thread brought up one of my favorite former-Bucks players, Sammy Cassell. Well, during his time and even now in the NBA full of highly skilled players, Cassell wasn't the only good shooter in the league, but few could come anywhere close to matching Sam in his ability to draw fouls off the shot fake. He was a master at it.

So while i agree that it would be great if DJO could fairly consistently draw some fouls via his sometimes effective shot fake, it's not as simple as faking a shot and just jumping into the defender for foul shots.

Last year at UConn, with a tight game on, he totally duped Dyson on a pump fake and jump into him rather than try to launch a three or drive. Dyson was whistled, DJO calmly sank 3 free throws to tie that game the Jimmy went on to win with a last second shot.

DJO knew exactly what he was doing and performed it perfectly.
