ViQueens/Giants game tonight
« on: December 13, 2010, 08:41:33 AM »
So the game is being carried in the local markets of MPLS, Mankato and New York as well as Sunday ticket.

Any chance this game will be on NFL Network?? I caught the end of a conversation on the radio about NFL network and this game, not sure if they were discussing the game being on NFL Network or why it would not (NFL/ESPN Rules, etc).

This is one game where Pack fans need to root for the Vikings to beat the Giants.

Either Philly or the Giants will win that Division, and the Pack right now are competing with several other teams for a playoff position:
second place team from Giants Division
second and third place Teams in Atlanta's Division
Bears
Right now, the Pack is outside looking in. If playoffs were held right now, I believe the three wild card teams would be NYG, Saints and Tampa Bay due to tie breaker.

Tampa Bay has the easiest remaining schedule: Lions, Seattle and Saints
Pack has tough schedule ahead: at NE, Giants and Bears. Pack will need to win two of those and hope the dreaded Bears lose two of last three

Unless I'm reading that incorrectly, there's only two wild cards per conference since the realignment.

Barring an epic collapse, the Saints are pretty much a lock. They're too good not to be. That eats up the 5 seed. That leaves Green Bay, Philly/NYG, and Tampa to compete for the final wild card spot.  Tampa's pesky, and frankly, not that good, but they have a very favorable schedule as you mentioned.  The Packers have the benefit of being able to have a head to head tiebreaker over the Giants (week 16) and Eagles (already attained week 1).

Still, the Packers' best route to the playoffs comes in the form of a Minnesota victory over Chicago next Monday night, a Green Bay win at home over NYG (we'll assume a loss at NE, I think that's fair). That would mean the final game of the season would determine the NFC North champion. The only role the CHI-NYJ game serves is if Chicago loses that, Green Bay would actually be allowed to lose at home to NYG, and still play for the division title the next week. It all hinges on next Monday night.

Otherwise, some major help is needed, especially from opponents of Tampa Bay.

If the Bears beat the Vikings next week they essentially clinch the division.

Correct, the Packers would have to finish with the best record outright to beat the Bears at that point. GB would have to win beat NE, NYG, and CHI, and CHI would have to lose to NYJ, GB.

so we can expect a retirement press conference somewhere between now and kickoff? Followed by a press conference by Jen(n?) Sterger's camp.

The NFL is burying that thing.  If it was any other player, but not Saint Brett.
