Is this part of the BE / SEC showdown?  Or is this a home and home where we get a return trip next year?

chapman

Home and home.  Not a ripoff like the Tennessee game.

Why doesn't the big east just do a real big east/sec showdown like all the other conferences do?

I know, i was definitely thinking about that this week w/ the Big 11/ACC showdown (either with them or what, PAC-10?).  What is the hold up?

Eye

Pac 10 already has one with the Big 12.

My guess is that they can't get the television like ACC/B10 does.

This is apparently the last year of that one - the earlier articles I'd read speculated that the Big 12 wasn't particularly happy with the Pac-10 for trying to poach half their schools, but it seems it has more to do with broadcast rights.  Which is disappointing, as even though I don't think these conference matchups are particularly useful for determining which conference is better, they do provide a lot of good games and engage fans more than your typical home-and-home series.

Hope the Big East steps up to either expand the games against the SEC or create something new with one of the other conferences.  But I'm not holding my breath.  :-\

Didn't know that was done this year, but with what's gone on between the leagues in the last 12 months, not a huge surprise they would opt not to continue with it. Most of the games are on FSN; a few have found their way on to the four-letter network platforms, so not a financial bonanza, you are correct. I'd agree with you, that's been a game I've been looking forward to each year on U of A's schedule for the last few years.

For MU's purposes, any of the the three leagues would serve some value. MU has tapped into the SE and Pac 10/12 areas a little bit the last couple of years, and obviously have the big Texas influence.
GO WARRIORS!
