Couldn't buy a board in this game it seems.  Any way to improve it?

Teach it, maybe?

no one boxes out, follows shots, or gets proper positioning.

Glad someone else stating our poor defensive rebounding.  I am sure there will be 100 posts about Buycks losing the game while we get schooled again giving up offensive rebounds.

seriously, on the defensive end a shot would go up and there were three zags under the hoop and one MU jersey.

No question offensive rebounds killed us. Watching our inside guys on defense, whenever a shot went up they just turned around and looked at the basket. I coach my kid's team and we yell at them all the time to box out with their a$$. Buzz better start teaching this SOON. Out of position, no boxing out, not jumping, getting run over inside. And then on our side of the court guys take shots and pose instead of getting after the ball. I counted at least 6 times we could have had offensive boards if we'd hustled.
Ugh another winnable game.

Needed 15+ solid minutes from Joe Fulce tonight.  That knee needs to heal...nobody else on the team knows how to grab a rebound.

Jam Chowder

The problem was definitely positioning, not height. Poor fundamentals, lack of awareness. That's gotta get coached into them.

Gonzaga simply outhustled MU. They wanted it more for about 38 minutes of the game and it was clear to see. And it doesn't surprise me after they had just lost two straight and got blown out last night. Still, I think MU is definately the better team.

Joe would have helped big time tonight. If anything his energy on the boards could have inspired a few others to actually get in there and get the positioning to pull down a couple.

NersEllenson

Rebounding was THE reason we lost the game...way, way, way too many 2nd chance points and 3rd and even 4th chance points for Gonzaga.

We still have a ways to go until we round into form..but there is no shame, just disappointment in losing to the Number 1 team in the country by five points, and 3 points to a desperate Gonzaga team who many picked as a team 8-14 in the country...

So if the stats on ESPN are official, we had 24 rebounds and five of them on the offensive end.  So we had 19 defensive rebounds and they had 16 offensive rebounds.  i wonder how often the shooting team gets 46% 0f the rebounds on their missed shots.
Wow.

You realize Buycks was spectating while his man was schooling him on the boards for offensive put-back lay-ins, right?

I agree. You can talk about teaching rebounding, etc., but tonight was about effort (as rebounding often is), plain and simple. To suggest it isn't being taught or worked on is pretty silly. Teaching it, and gettingdoing it done are two different things. MU simply didn't bring 100% effort to this one.

we arent tall enough. this has been an issue for a few yrs now. awesome timeout too btw...maybe if buzz spent less time on his three piece suit selection and figurin out how to manage the clock we couldve had a decent look to tie the game.

I didn't see that very often

What i saw was their 7 footer was simply to tall on a few offensive rebounds, just as Plumlee was to tall yesterday.

On some of the other offensive boards by the Zags, we had guys in the paint, but instead of searching for a body and blocking out, they only stood there watching the ball without any block out. I like what i've seen of Crowder overall, but he was guilty multiple times of that, not blocking out and instead just watching the ball.

Then a few was just bad luck on long rebounds off missed jumpers which simply found a Zags player.

Wade for President

Prior to our game against Gonzaga game our lack of rebounding was painfully obvious.  I don't want to continue to trash Buycks, but I've rarely seen him box out.  How does big Dae Dae not throw that rump into somebody to keep his man off the glass?!?

There is NOTHING more frustrating to lose a game because of lack of fundamentals.  Nothing.

This solves it - Rebounding is not about Height!
You heard it here first. Davante Gardner will be a Beast this year.

It seemed to me that on several occasions, we had a defender help out with a double team when one of Gonzaga's bigs got the ball in the paint.  Quite often, that big would miss his shot, but the Marquette player who helped on the double team was then not able to get back and box out his own man.  Additionally, Marquette was guilty of not even boxing out the shooter as many posters have already stated - they just turned around and looked at the basket.

I think this can and will be fixed.

You clearly don't understand basketball. Their point guard that is under 6 feet out rebounded us. That means every player on the court we had was taller than him. How is that a height issue?

As for the timeout he drew up a play with 8 seconds left it broke down and so instead of an out of control chuck up 3 he took another time out to get a better shot. That's a good time out in that situation.

you can't coach 6" more reach from bigs. when Otule wasn't in there he had the run of the boards

Yes... only Buycks gave up all of the offensive rebounds in the game since he was assigned Harris who had 4 off rebounds and Sacre who had 6.  Goodson and Gray finished with 2 offensive rebounds (whom I saw him guarding in the game).

We win by 10 if Buycks doesn't play.   ::)

I realize we don't practice free throws, but, do we practice rebounding?
