Good move as Lavin's never been known for great defense.

Think any of the SJU players know who Keady is?

GGGG

I didn't know that Keady's wife died last year.  I believe his daughter died a few years ago too.

Oh, I don't doubt that, and rightly so.  I just meant that he hasn't coached in 5 years and didn't have a really notable season for another 5 years prior.  Wouldn't surprise me if a bunch of the players weren't aware of who he was on their own.

I think it's a good move on Lavin's part -- adds even more credibility to a program that was in shambles. Even if the potential recruits aren't totally familiar, I'm sure their dads remember him as one feisty SOB who consistently produced a winning program.

And (add descriptive adjective here) Crean tried to hire Franschilla for his bench, but Fran was too smart to do that.

great move on lavin's part..., he never was much of a coach in my book, but always a good recruiter.  Never thought much of Keady either, then again, I have ridiculously high standards (see Al McGuire).  Will add some street cred to the program, and he did enough color on network broadcasts to boost the 'aura' of a big time program.  Can't hurt.

edited-thanks, Chicos

Who is Al Maguire....is he related to Jerry?   ;)

Has St. John's done anything to improve their facilities? From what i recall they almost could be categorized as a fitness museum.

Yes. Practice Facility added about 5 years ago.

Carnesecca Arena has seen millions of dollars in renovations over past 3 years too. I have some great quotes from John Anderson and Doug Gottlieb of ESPN from our midnight madness that I'll write up tomorrow.

Also how awesome is it that Lavin has the minds of Gene Keady and Lou Carnesecca at his disposal every morning?

Well he had John Wooden at his disposal in his previous coaching job.   ;)   I like Lavin and have the opportunity to work with him out here in L.A.  I think it was a good hire for St. John's, exactly what they needed.  Whether it works out in the long run, who knows...we'll find out years down the road, but it was the right type of flash hire that was needed in New York to get people excited.

I'm a fan of Gene Keady... I think he'll be a great asset to SJU.
Lavin is comin' in hot!  He's grabbing up recruits... for a slickster, he's pretty classy.
That gets me to thinking...  Who thinks slicking their hair back looks good?
What's your vote for best slicked back hair in basketball?  If nothing else, it's an iconic look...
Pat Reilly, Steve Lavin, Mike Brey quickly come to mind.

I attribute this mindless drivel to being 1:10 in the morn...
