We are diligent and sometimes hard on MU basetball, our recruiting and coaches. But  for perspective and to feel better, very proud, and happy about all that is MU,.....consider the news and history of Baylor-- a comparable program.

Baylor is a 13,000 student,  private, religion founded (baptist), Div One, BCS conference school, recently celebrating renewed BB success--
all similararities to MU.....But wow do we look great in comparison!!!

Announced today, Baylor cleared LaceDarius Dunn to practice with the BB team, while felony aggravated assault charges (2-20 years prison time) are pending for the claim he beat a girlfriend, and broke her jaw, in two places.

This week, it also was confirmed NCAA is investigating Baylor, on a broader front, including the claim, in a foreign player's recruitment,  a Baylor assistant implied the player would be deported from USA, if he dared sign with someone other than Baylor.

Some may remember well before the Drew tenure (who many in Big 12 gossip over his borderline recruitment tactics), Baylor had a player shooting/murder, widespread criminal, and academic coverups, under Coach Bliss, and narrowly avoided the NCAA death penalty. Those 5 year penalties ended in 2010.

The football program has had NCAA violations, and its abysmal Big 12 record is a cautionary tale for those here who are enamoured with a private school of 13000 attempting to compete in a football BCS conference. (Since joining the Big 12 conference in 1996, Baylor has held a 13–43 record in regular season play, the worst record in the Big 12 south).

Ken Starr ( of Clinton/Lewinsky special counsel fame), is the current president of Baylor. He could launch a five year, $70 million investigation, into his own school, and try to "do" athletics right, or spend $700, and fly to MU, for a few days, and have them teach/show Baylor how a comparable situation can be administered with class,  integrity, and yes, even success on the field of play.

Whether a Warrior, or Golden Eagle...you can always feel good you are not a Baylor Bear!
I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it.

Wade for President

What was failed to be mentioned, that even though those issues exist, they still have been able to put two of the best big guys on the floor in back-to-back years.  You thought Ekpe Udoh was a beast, wait til you see Perry Jones.  Whole new meaning to the word beast.

Absolutely remarkable job by Coach Drew.  You thought Crean's rebuilding @ IU was challenging...atleast he didn't have to overcome a MURDER SCANDAL within his own program.

Wow...honestly never expected to ever "defend" Baylor on MUScoop.

Drew did get them deep this past season but he's a cheater. Its been rumored all the way back to his days in Valpo. His foreign contacts are typically paid off and he's had a couple of the same people around him all the way up the ladder (kind of like a certain guy who coaches in a town called Knoxville).

Now, the rumors are coming to roost. NCAA will investigate. Will find that once they left probation for the Dennehy debacle, the Bears started right down the path of Kelvin Sampson and dialed like a 14 year old girl on her first mobile.

Everyone does it. Some are just smoother about it.

A quote from the article:
Drew has spoken with, but not retained, an El Paso-based lawyer, Jim Darnell, who recently represented the former U.S.C. coach Tim Floyd in the N.C.A.A.'s investigation into the Trojan basketball program.

"I don't know that Coach Drew even needs a lawyer," Darnell said. "He and I talked and visited about how these things work. I've been through this drill enough times to know how it works."

Darnell added, "From what I understand, the focus would not be on Coach Drew."

For a lawyer who has not been retained Darnell sure seems to be out front on defending his - er - client in the press.
You actually have a degree from Marquette?

No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.
