He too is on a very, very short leach and is not expected to last another year.
Well at least its a short leach and not a big fat leach. ;D

I was surprised about that too.  Since DePaul is private we don't know what salary they gave him yet, but he went from a middle-tier ACC school to the dead last Big East team.  These two conferences have been arguably the two best for the last decade so he is not improving there either.  Maybe he wanted to live in a big city and wanted a challenge?

I too feel that fater what seemed to be an absolutely terrible job search that bordered on becoming an emabarassment that Depaul struck Gold in Purnell.  he did a great job in rebuilding the Dayton program before gift wrapping it for Gregory.

But dont think for amoment the move to Depaul was not calculated...he was smart enought to see the writing on the wall.  After doing an outstanding job in increasing the talent and level of play at Clemson the natives were getting wrestless.  the fans were drunk with the success that he brought them.  His teams also became an almost joke for starting ever season seemingly like 13-0 before absolutely plaming out and missing the tourney or backing in with a 17-13 record or something along those lines.  He had one more year at Clemson at most and parlayed that into I amsure a very nice long term deal at Depaul.  Really a no brainer if you know the situation.

agreed. dude bought himself another half decade of rich salary. and he gets to spend it with few expectations, while rebuilding - which is his strength.

Purnell reportedly got $15mill over 7 years.

DePaul needs a coach like him to return to prominence.  He will win over Chicago in a short time, and the early negatives from AAU coaches have turned to praise.
