Milwaukee native Darnell Harris has apparently committed to Florida International. I had heard that Buzz was hoping to get him after he went the prep route but apparently that didn't work out.

mr.MUskie

Florida International struck on the recruiting trail on Tuesday and this time it was in Wisconsin by way of Texas as 6-7 2011 F Darnell Harris of Christian Humble Life Academy in Texas verbally committed to FIU according to his grassroots travel team coach Ward Jenkins.  Long regarded as one of the top 2011 prospects in the Midwest, Harris is originally from Wisconsin and he transferred to Christian Humble Life Academy from Milwaukee Hamilton this fall.

Harris played with the Milwaukee Running Rebels during the grassroots travel season.

May he enjoy playing in the Sunbelt Conference.  No bad weather in the winter in Miami.

NavinRJohnson

Look for him at MU in 2-3 years after Isaiah Thomas wears out his welcome at FIU, as he does everywhere he goes.

mikem91288

Kinda seems like a waste to go prep and ditch your stacked team your senior year to commit to FIU. If he stayed around he would have gotten looks from both MU and UW. Not even sure FIU is an upgrade over UWM.
Warrior in the class of 2011.

GGGG

Yeah that was my thought exactly.  You could have stayed home, gone to Hamilton, and ended up at FIU.  Why go through the expense and the effort to settle for a school like that?

Plus, it's freaking September.  Couldn't he have held out a little longer?

IheartBuzz

Maybe he left to get academics in order so that he could play ball and could be eligible... I wish him luck, maybe this is what he really wanted, some are too quick to judge here.

GGGG

Christian Humble Academy isn't really a high-level academic institution is it?  I mean, Hamilton is a decent MPS school.  I can't imagine that it's that much of a step up.

bilsu

It might make sense to wait if you were MU's or UW's plan A. My guess he was plan C.

I thought he might have been a nice backup plan if (pretty much all) our other recruits fell through. Hope he does well for Isaiah, although I think the chances of Isaiah being there in 5 years when Harris would be set to graduate are pretty slim. He'll either burn out, or if he does well he'll try to climb the ladder.

westcoastwarrior

Well unfortunately for Darnell....Vanessa is a senior.  She will not be on the campus when he gets there....maybe she has a younger sister.

If you're familiar with how the requirements work the higher the H.S. GPA the lower score you need on your ACT/SAT to qualify. Which is why he transfered to Humble Life, where I'm sure he got "straight A's", therefore the low score on his ACT qualified him. Isn't this where Cadougan went? I think there's 25 kids in the school and 24 of them play basketball.

According to their website, they have 350 students in grades 3K-12.  They were founded in 1994 by Pastor Rodriguez "in a response to a vision from God."

Their basketball program was founded by current Baylor assistant coach Jerome Tang and Torrance Hicks.

i believe that is an extremely cynical way of looking at it.  The school provides them with small calss sizes, one on one tutoring and attention, they also learn to live away from home.  Additioonally, they learn proper studying habits, get specific attention in areas of need, preperation for standardized testing and much more.  Of course their grades go up...as do their test scores.  These kids are typically on 100% scholarship or financial aid so there is no benefit for the school to simply bring them in and give them straight A's.

Lastly, when was the last time a MPS kid was eligible coming out of HS.  they are few and far between

Wow, you drank too much prep school kool-aid.

I thought Isaiah was putting together a pretty good class, at least on paper.  We'll see how they play together.  It will be easier to dominate a league like that even if Isaiah can't coach a lick....they'll just out athlete everyone.
