There is one other possiblity, and that is that a current scholarship player walks on next year and pays his own way.  I believe that's still permitted under NCAA rules.

I would guess that some players may actually qualify for significant need-based aid--loans, fedral grants, etc--but I'm less certain on the NCAA rule impact.

I doubt that will be the result, but added it as a choice to the poll.

part of a conversation with Jim Mac the other night-
regarding DJ

he's thinking due to the lack of pg's in this year draft and even tho' Dom's season ain't what it was, he'll still declare.
mentioned something about a lot of stuff in dj's head right now.

so perhaps if blackledge goes, we'll have 2?

There are a few guys on the team that would qualify for an academic scholarship too. I could see that happening if DJ does stay and Blackledge gets himself academically eligible.

I read somewhere  ::) that someone credible spoke with DJ's dad and he said he would NOT be going to the association.  Take it for what its worth... internet message board babble.

That was me, and that's what he told me. He essentially he said he doesn't want to sit on a bench for a year or two. He wants to be ready and prepared to play.

In the end, it's impossible to know what will really happen. But, this is an opinion that's obviously pretty close to the situation.

Hypothetically......

Let's assume this is true, and he stays.
Then let's assume that whoever gets the short straw on a scholarship leaves in disgust.
Most likely it would be Blackledge to go, and I think everyone would take a year  (maybe 2) of DJ over one of Blackledge.

But what if it's not Blackledge? Who would you give up to keep Dom?
Jerel, Wes, Ousmane, Dan, and Lazar would all have to be considered untouchable. (I leave Cubes off this list because Acker + Christopherson = pretty much anything Cubes brings to the table.)

For one (or 2) years with Dom, would you sacrifice...?
2 years of Dwight?
3 years of Cubes?
3 years of Acker?
4 years of Christopherson?
4 years of Mbakwe?
4 years of Hazel?
4 years of Sanders?

How about this?  Mbwake doesn't qualify for school.  I have talked to a couple coaches here in the Cities who have said it will be difficult for him to qualify to play in the first year.  He still may get a partial qualification, or he might get the full thing if he has been working really hard this past year (they told me this based off of knowledge of his past few years), but I think we need to consider this as well.

However, I voted that the NCAA will be adding a scholarship this year.

Thanks for the link. I thought that I read that a while ago. I actually think all four of the kids have qualified.
But I like to throw handfuls...
