This has probably been asked somewhere in the previous 6,000 posts about this... but a question for the people who think about things in black and white.... Lets say Montrale Clark had submitted his NLI/LOI and was accepted to MU before his stuff went down.  For all intents and purposes the only difference is the timing of events.  It looks like as of now he didn't get convicted of anything and there's really not any evidence that would convict him in the future (I don't know if this is the case, but lets just say it is). Obviously he didn't win the battle in the court of public opinion on his future at MU and he would have been recruited over most likely if he did already submit his NLI.  Is there an ethics clause in the black and white world? Who determines what is/isn't ethical. This post has nothing to do with Newbill, but rather should MU always 100% honor their commitments.

Players can and do de-commit, programs can and do de-commit too.  It didn't seem to me that Monterale Clark's situation had any gray area.  He put himself in a bad situation that got worse.  MU doesn't owe him anything.

It's "for all intents and purposes"

Sorry to derail the thread like that, but that really irritates me. It's like people who spell "definitely" as "defiantly"

I see your point, but at the end of the day, a big part of the teams job is to market Marquette University to the rest of the country. In a business setting, one of the first things people know about MU from outside the midwest is their basketball team...Al, DWade, and the rest. The whole alleged rapist/incoming recruit just does not sound good, period. I would never fault MU for dropping a kid after that whole mess went down. For me its about the image of the university. Maybe if Clark was totally framed I would be in the wrong, but I am just telling it like it is.
Warrior in the class of 2011.

I saw the title of this thread and thought it was going to be another comparison of MU and UW's recruiting. ;)
