IF Wilson wins his appeal...
« on: June 30, 2010, 09:53:33 PM »
Would it be beneficial for him to contribute this season?
Or redshirt until next season while he learns the system?

Discuss.

Play now. We'll likely recruit over him in a year or two.

Even though there was a FULL coaching staff change at Oregon, Rosiak mentioned that Wilson will have to sit out the '10-'11 season.

But on the interview (mp3 link), Wilson mentioned that he may appeal the NCAA rule - since he was recruited by Kent and company and ALL of them were ushered out.

Thanks!  I didn't finish the interview so I did not catch that.  Would be great to say him play now with all the guys.

He is not going to win an appeal because the coaching staff changed.

Unless the NCAA breaks new ground he is going to be sitting next year.

Doubt that he will win the appeal, but absolutely play now.

He has a year of experience from Oregon, so he is not a frosh anymore.

If he can play now, we should consider redshirting somebody else--don't know who that would be, but he would take minutes from E. Williams and J. Jones.
I thought you were dead. Willie lives rent free in Reekers mind.

The suggestion was that any appeal would based on a claim that a personal situation that led him to transfer closer to home. Sounds like a specious argument, if you ask me.

The appeal would be choosing to move closer to home because of the death of his mother.  But that happened during high school, and it's likely the NCAA wouldn't waive the year in residence because of that.  There's no way they'd grant an appeal because the coaching staff changed.

Using the same logic, would you make the argument that we should redshirt Blue, Jones, Crowder and Smith?  Not only do they have the same level of inexperience with the system as Wilson, they lack the year of D1 experience that Wilson has under his belt.

One of the problems with college basketball is that the NCAA started making exceptions for players having to sit out a year. I do not think they should make an exception for anyone, because in the end this is a bad overall policy that will lead to schools recruiting other schools players.

First of all, I don't know anything about his family other than knowing his mother passed away in high school.  The only way I could see him having a chance at the appeal is if something has happened in the mean time with his family, like his Dad is having more difficulty than expected raising younger siblings as a single parent, etc.
