ESPN just reported that the Detroit Free Press is reporting Izzo will announce he is staying at MSU.

NavinRJohnson

So, that's a pretty good indication LeBron not planning to be back in Cleveland,.

Good for him, good for college basketball.

Agree, great for college B-ball and the Michigan State fans.  What do they call themselves, The Izzo Zone?

94Warrior

Bad for MU.  With Buzz going head-to-head with MSU for both Dawson and Shaw, our chances would have improved had Izzo made the jump.

Think it's the IZZONE.

Mr. Nielsen

Nothing ever good happens coaching in the NBA. Glad he is still at Michigan State.

Paychecks happen, but how much do you really need if you are happy at your seven-figure job.  It would have been interesting to see a college coach go to a stacked team or a team on the verge.  Izzo coaching Lebron in Cleveland or Coach K going to the Lakers would have both been interesting to see play out.

That being said, glad he stayed because he has such a great thing going.  Only negative for MU is that Izzo will still be recruiting in the region still.

Mr. Nielsen

Izzo make over 3 million, what is 5 million with Cavs.

$2 million is a ton of money, even if you already have a lot.  You can do so much with it.  It is for sure something to consider if someone offers you a $2 million raise to move and do a similar job.

war1980rior

Great decision by Izzo if it is the money.  College coaches don't typically last long in the NBA.  $5 mill over three years vs. $3 Mill a year for life.  Nice, stable, wealthy.  Nothing wrong with that.

NavinRJohnson

That extra money probably would have been a whole lot more meaningful had LeBron told him he was heading back to Cleveland. I'm guessing an extra couple Mil was not enough for Izzo to go get his brains beat in for a couple years before going back to the college game at whatever high profile job was going to be available at the time. Had LeBron told him he would be back in Cleveland, I think its probably a safe bet that Izzo would be there as well.

Cavaliers job with Lebron = very good
Cavaliers job with Lebron and a top tier free agent = as good as it gets
Cavaliers job without Lebron = coaching the New Jersey Nets

RJax55

Yeah, if Izzo received word that Lebron was going to stay, he takes the job.

Just another sign to Cavs fans that Lebron is more than likely leaving Cleveland.

Why would LeBron tip his hat to Izzo?  I don't see how this can be correlated to LBJ leaving CLE without a doubt and that this means he's gone...

I don't think he is saying anything is without a doubt, but I do agree that it does lean towards hinting Lebron may be leaving.  That was the point he was making.
