Sad, I would have thought BBFran's donations alone would have floated the program (remember - he stated they are the best PROGRAM in Milwaukee numerous times).

Maybe MU donates to UW-Milwaukee to keep them alive in Div 1 so the undefeated streak can continue....

I think the word "rip" is a wee bit hevy-handed here. Read the article earlier this morning and i certainly did not read it as "ripping" UWM.  Rather its just poiting out the difficulties of being a mid-major following the Bruce pearl era.

So goes the life of a mid-major. It's very difficult for programs like UWM to sustain success because they see a lot of coaching turnover which leads to instability which makes recruiting significantly more difficult. The key is to take advantage of the "windfalls" that take place when the team is up - invest that money wisely and you'll increase your chances to remain competitive, stand pat and you'll lose your window. Most importantly, don't fall into the trap of convincing yourself that the wins, attention, and large donations will always be there.

MU did a nice job of "investing" after the Final Four run and they're now reaping the benefits.

Well their only option is to go back to tampering with players from other schools to get them to attend UWM.  I don't think that's an option for them....Jeter doesn't play that game like Pearl did.

I'm not that familiar but didn't Jeter's team last year or the year before have most of the starters kicked off the team?

NO, That was in 06-07

Agreed.  Got the Al and got into the Big East.  Fr. Wild, Crean, the AD, and the whole school did a great job all around with that.  I think the whole school is better off for it because Marquette is a better known name.  I hope MU's next president understands that investing in basketball pays off.

I find it absolutely hysterical that two different people mentioned in the comments section that Marquette received $50 million dollars in taxpayer money.

Also, multiple people mentioned how people who didn't even go to Marquette are Marquette fans in the Milwaukee area.

Does this sound familar to anyone?

Mr. Nielsen

Many people who didn't go to Wisconsin or Marquette are fans of the school. You wouldn't have many fans otherwise.

I don't run into many at the games.  Not saying that they don't exist, but around my seats it's usually an alum or two with their family or friends that are the season-ticket holders.

I know many and I'm one of them.
The 80,000 plus for Wisconsin, Auburn, Penn State, etc. for football games, many of those people didn't go to that school.
