I would like to talk about Obama being a socialist.  Could someone direct me to a political forum please?

Additionally, Obama was born in Kenya.  Kenya was a part of the BRITISH EMPIRE until 1963.  Obama was born in 1961... during the rule of the British in Kenya, thusly proving how Obama is directly responsible for BP ruining the ENTIRE OCEAN!

So does that mean that if the US loses to England in the WC that it is Obama's fault?

Just checking :)

Yes.  All World Cup losses land squarely on the President's shoulders.  All WC wins are due to American Ingenuity.  All ties are due to John Kerry's waffling during the 2004 presidential election (I know it's a stretch, but let him have it.  It's really all he has left).

No, it will be George Bush's fault ;)

Yeah, they need to get the dominoes in place and get it over with. Every hour there is some new speculation on a different conference realignment.

I have a feeling this will go on for a few weeks.

What really is galling is the prima donna attitude of ND thgrough all this. It probably won't happen, but it would be great to see them get the big shaft through this!

Money talks--the rest walks.

What is prima donna about wanting to maintain tradition? I'm sure all of us would like our alma mater to go back to being the Warriors. Why can't Notre Dame want their football independence? That's the way it has always been and they don't want to change. The fact of the matter is that ND football has more national exposure, history and prestige than any other college football program and because of that, they can play by a different set of rules. If Marquette's basketball program had that same national exposure, history and prestige, you wouldn't expect the same?

What are the benefits of a conference to begin with?  Collective bargaining for TV money?  An easier scheduling process?  I'm very curious as to what the board considers to be the benefit of conferences in the NCAA.  Perhaps someone can educate me as to why conference affiliations became the norm.  ND football, as I see it, has it right.  I loathe the Domers, but being able to create a saleable product in spite of being a crap product (most years) has left the school in pretty good shape.  Why, again, does any school need the conference?

I've heard some say that being in a conference is good because it gives the team/athletes something else to play for.  Once Notre Dame is out of the national championship hunt, they don't have a conference championship to play for.  Sure, they can go to a bowl, but they can't win a conference championship (either regular season or tournament).  Also, for the individual players, if you're at Notre Dame you are either an All American, or you don't get any individual recognition.  No "First Team All Conference" honors.  I've heard it said that this is a disadvantage to ND in recruiting.  Not sure if it's true or not.

I think it may also hurt ND if they ever do get good again and go undefeated in a year like last year.  Texas and Alabama (and Florida if they won) were experienced teams and undefeated.  How could the BCS keep Texas or Alabama out of the championship game in favor of Notre Dame after both won a National Championship and ND was playing the service academies, an unusually weak USC last year, and bottom Big Ten teams with Michigan particularly struggling?  That is when the alumni base at ND will see the virtue of a conference and winning a conference championship game.

Whoa - well done fellas.  I thought for sure when I clicked on page 2 I'd have to lock this thing.  But now that your sorta back on topic....carry on...

Anyhow "Re: Anyone Else Tired Of All This Conference Bullcrap?"

Yes.  Clearly lots here find it interesting to talk about (I glad about that), but I don't give a rip.  It's out of my hands, we'll see how it ends soon enough.

November 4, 2008

I actually have come around to love that day...it has finally awakened a lot of people who are so pissed off right now.  I'm happy the bear was poked and poked hard.  42% approval rating right now, Congress between 15% and 21%.

I love that day for what it's going to mean in November of 2010.   ;D

Yes Conf expansion is interesting to me for three reasons:
1) locally, watching the Big8/SWC--Big 12 breakup after decades together, is amazing
2) 4-5 Power conf w/16 teams will change the game, TV, and poss lead to a natl playoff
but the main reason why I cant avert my attention....
3) Its like a slow motion car wreck... I am gut wrenching that its full shakeout will/may have my dear ole' MU's world either out of BE, in a radically altered BE, in a BB only, a10 merged, or cath schools league...and..
Having lived through the good and lean of MU as independent, membering up in Great Midwest, and in C-USA....
I fear the best of times (being in best, nationally acclaimed BB conf-- and doing well in it!), may revert to some of those struggling prior days.
We went from rich to poorer, and back to upper middle class--- I fear and dont want to see us ever struggle for position, prestige, or respect....
...and I am mad the greedy FB drama playing out may have this effect due to matters and money  beyond our control
I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it.

The BCS would keep Alabama or Texas out of the championship game because ND generates more revenue for the BCS. This whole conference expansion thing is driven by projected increases in revenue and that is why ND is king. Any conference out there would take ND in a second. No one cares about being a conference champion. All the big schools sell kids on competing for national championships and as long as ND has a BCS bid that's all that matters unless the super conferences become a reality and ND has no one left to schedule.
