Hayward chooses to skip Portsmouth

Lazar Hayward's trip to Indianapolis last week wound up being unexpectedly productive.

Thanks. I think my post gave Todd the idea for his blog entry.

Lazar got some bad advice, possibly from his agent. He needs all the exposure he can get. Portsmouth is typically for players unlikely to be drafted in the first round. That's all need be said.

He should have gone to Portsmouth!!!  He doesn't hurt himself by not going but he doesn't help his cause at all.  There are other dudes working just as hard and if he went to Portsmouth and done well(he probably would have) then it enforces the belief that Hayward is a player.

I don't think an All-Star game in Indy is any indication of anything really since its an all star game . .  next to being invited.

Fullodds

Lazar is better off as a free agent rather than a 2d round pick.

Classic Arm Chair Quarterback mode in this thread .. Lazar is surrounded by guys who are trying to get him to the NBA, his agent, especially, who has a dozen guys studying the NBA teams and their draft needs, not to mention all those who've declared.

Lazar was advised by guys who live and breathe this stuff not to go to PSmith, so he did not.

It would be interesting to see agents batting averages in getting guys into the NBA.

"I thought it was pretty good. They saw me do a number of different things," he said. "I got to play on the wing the whole time, so it was pretty good."

This quote says so much!!  Can you imagine an MU team good enough for Lazar to play his natural position for 4 years.  What a luxury that would have been.

We all know he played out of position, but I think this is the first time I heard him acknowledge it (indirectly, of course).

Do you know the difference between an agent and an insurance salesman? The agent takes the bus to work and the insurance salesman drives his own car.

If Hayward believes his NBA position is on the wing, then the agent's fiduciary duty requires that he advise Lazar to go to Portsmouth and show his stuff on the perimeter. This stuff is Sportsagent 101.

GGGG

His agent, Sam Goldfeder, has clients such as Blake & Tyler Griffin, Mario Chalmers, Luc M'bah a Moute, Kareem Rush and Aaron Afflalo.

I think he knows what he is doing.

I agree
Brad Miller had hoped Rockets would pick him in 2nd, as his uncle (a 7ft 350lb hulk) had gotten close with Rudy T
Uncle told me best thing to happen was not to be picked--
his position is any player who isnt fully known quantity or those that are tweeners are better off going a team player & agent  see as  the fit for their best shot.
I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it.
