TUSCALOOSA | The spring signing period for college basketball players began Wednesday, but the University of Alabama reported no signees and is not expected to add any players before next week, if then.

The Crimson Tide will entertain at least one visitor this weekend. Jason Carter, a 6-foot-8 forward from Christian Life Center Academy in Humble, Texas, will visit the UA campus. Originally from New Orleans but displaced by Hurricane Katrina, Carter visited Ole Miss last weekend. He averaged 14.6 points and 10.5 rebounds for CLCA last season.

It is possible that at least one additional player will visit the UA campus this weekend, although no final confirmation on that has been available to The Tuscaloosa News.

Forward Luke Cothron, an earlier visitor to Alabama and the No. 55 players in America according to ESPN's Top 100 prospects list, told a Kentucky-based web site (Bluegrass State Basketball) that he was no longer considering Kentucky but that he was now considering Tennessee and Connecticut in addition to Auburn, Marquette and Alabama.

The Crimson Tide signed two players, point guard Trevor Releford of Kansas City and swingman Charles Hankerson of Miami, in the November signing period.

Definitely, a mixed bag.  Cothron looking like anything but a lock for Alabama, but the competition gets thicker.
You actually have a degree from Marquette?

No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

Why would he even consider Tennessee when they already are loaded at his position with JMay?

I hope he goes to MU.

But if he doesn't...then Tennessee. Stick it to JM.

I thought he was a big, not a two guard! ::)

If he goes to UT, he will play whereever JMay tells him to play.

No, he will play wherever Tim tells Bruce to play him!

J-May doesn't play his position. J-May plays the 2

According to his delusional fathers mind, J-May plays the 1-5... all positions, will bring the double team, and split it.  He has a abilities of a young Michael Jordan, with more flare.  Is as clutch as Laettner at Duke, and as poised as a young Larry Bird.

Lets face it, we missed big on J-May, Buzz just couldn't see the talent.

First...the guy writing this article is clueless:

The spring signing period runs through mid May, approximately 6 weeks. It is not a week long period like in the spring. Does he really think Alabama is done recruiting?

I haven't seen him play, but according to what some say about him, it sounds like Cothron is similar to J May...In that they are disillusional about the position they belong in.  While Cothron is 6'8", some say he hangs out on the perimeter too much and has no desire to go down low and use his size.

In that case I don't want him. We need bangers down low, regardless of height.

Is he a long lost relative of Rasheed Wallace?

I disagree on Cothron's skillset.  If he is a perimeter scorer, he works well with a lot of lineups.  MU wants DJO and Jimmy getting to the paint.  Buycks too actually.  A big guy who can score with his back to the basket would be nice and would get a lot of good touches, but it is not necessary.

Rebounding is a reason we need a big man.  Just having a big body on the floor helps because the other team is forced to block him out.

Defense is probably the biggest reason to get a big guy.  If he can defend bigs, but likes hitting shots from 12-18 feet, welcome to MU.

He could be the guy in the middle of Syracuse's 2-3 that we need to bust the zone from that spot.
