Here is an interesting Final four/houston note.

Guy v Lewis is a friend, and he told me when the big game in Houston betw Alcindor's no 1 UCLA and the No 2 UH Elvin Hayes team was coming up--he knew Hofheinz wouldn't hold the crowd.
Guy called local business friends and they PERSONALLY  rented  the astrodome, and Guy personally paid the insurance from his pocket....all were well rewarded

The game of the century resulted—
1st nationwide college basketball telecsast (Dick Enberg on the call)
largest crowd to ever see a college BB game;
and NCAA caught on to
final four idea of the final four and march madness being held in the huge stadiums

Guy  V 's idea of moving his game from Hofheinz started it all—here are details:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9e31mA5clAg

And yet,
Guy V still is not voted to BB HOF, in Springfield !!— despite 5 final fours (—never won it all) .
I think he contributed more to the game than many now in there.
I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it.

GGGG

He gets credit for the current "big stadium final 4 concept" for a game in 1968 when the first final four to be held in a dome was 1982?  And has only been continuously held in a dome since 1991?

no-- there wasnt a next day nexus and guy doesnt take such credit (he is self effacing)
What occured was , on the game's success regional tv power TVS (see you tube video link) owned by eddie einhorn continued/expanded  signing entire conferences to TV deals and cable needed programming--he was getting very wealthy--

Wiki notes: "Einhorn produced the first nationally syndicated radio broadcast of the NCAA Men's Division I Basketball Championship in 1958. In 1960, he founded the TVS Television Network to telecast college basketball games to regional networks at a time that the sport was of no interest to the national networks.  Einhorn helped put together the first national broadcast of college basketball for the Game of the Century between the Houston Cougars and UCLA Bruins in 1968. He later sold his interest in the network and became the head of CBS Sports."

NCAA held tourn rights --so at CBS Einhorn encouraged the natl tv contract and big stadium move.   Their jump to the natl stage, natl tv and the use of big domes is traced to UH game as launching point (kernel of the idea). Read einhorn's book How March Became Madness-- for all these details.

Again, you tube video covers UH game for what it was--- kind of the natl coming of age of college BB--good video for a BB fan--enjoy
