MU can make this a moot point by just paying the man though.

Amen.  That is what I loved about MU.  Buzz loves buying new suits, and that will never be an issue for him while at MU.

1- He can talk about Christianity all he wants
2- 4 and 5 star players will come
3- Madison Square Garden
4- He gets paid/will get paid= Lots of greats suits
5- Adoring fanbase that is easy to please (at least for now) just by making the tourney and getting to the Sweet 16 every once in a while

All pretty good reasons for any coach to want this job, and great reasons to stay for Buzz.

:o Ben Howland?!!? :o
I know every school overvalues itself a little, and that particularly comes out in coaching searches... but really? Come on, that should disincentivize anyone from taking the job because of how delusional that fan base is. If they see their program able to steal a coach from UCLA, they won't ever be happy with their results.  At the end of the day, just competing in the Big 10 would be great for that program.

The De Paul board has similar illusions of grandeur with their next coach being Howland or Dixon.

The last dickhead was very well compensated and could have milked out more.

Sounds much more like the school 78 miles to the west. I hope the standards of the average of MU fan aren't just making the tourney and getting to the Sweet 16 every once in a while. I'd say MU should be making the Sweet 16 something like 2 out of every 5 years, which for me would be more than every once in a while. Like you said maybe that's what they are just for now ...

We don't make the Sweet 16 too often, so getting there is setting the bar where it should be.  Crean would not have been run off campus for consistent second round exits.  Buzz gets a pass until he is four years in and is setting the bar higher with his coaching and recruiting.

Hopefully after the 2011 recruiting the bar will be higher than making the tourney expectations with the Sweet 16 as a nice season.

My expectations are MU should win a first-round game in the tourney most years, more than 50 percent of the time. I'd agree any year where MU makes the Sweet 16 is a good year. When you start making it at a more consistent rate, you can start thinking about making the Final Four once a decade and winning another title sometime before I pass (I'm 38). The 3-8 seed range, where MU has been in all but one of its 11 tourney appearances in the last 18 years, is acceptable. Sound like we're in the same neighborhood with expecations to me.

This is hilarious!  I'm sorry... I have nothing against Iowa but come on!  This writer is pulling names from a hat!

Not his hat he's pulling these from.

Buzz could express his religious views more openly than if he was a state-actor and constrained by the First Amendment's Establishment Clause.

If Buzz Williams is so religious why does he chew tobacco?

MUBurrow

he's baptist, not mormon.

Does the writer of that article really believe that Iowa is a more attractive job than MU?

It gets old every time we have a sucessful full seasons that our coach (whomever it is at the time) gets mentioned for open positions even though those positions are really not more attractive than MU.  Do people outside of the MU community really have that bad of an opinion of our program?
