Game 31: St. John's (Big East Tournament)

New York -- If there's a team remaining in the Big East Tournament right now that plays as hard for 40 minutes and maximizes its talent as well as the Marquette Golden Eagles, it's probably the St. John's Red Storm.

if we lose this game, we might as well hang the jockstraps up for the year. Closing out with 2 consecutive losses is not acceptable.

A) Win or lose, we will have an NCAA Tournament game.

B) Even with your flawed logic of us missing the NCAA Tournament with a loss today, we would have an NIT game.

Nevertheless, his point remains.  Losing a home game to a maybe just in the field ND team and then dropping a conference tourney game to 18-14 (6-12) St. John's should be unacceptable.  It could bump us down to that 11 seed some are coveting, but it's hard to salivate over "better" Sweet 16 chances if we're not good enough to beat St. John's.

Agreed...Louisville and ND should also be out of tournament as they lost to St. Johns and MU.  I had much higher expectations for this team at the beginning of the year, and I feel their play, especially as of late, is unacceptable.

Omar Cooke is not walking through that door (thankfully - or I'd bet on SJU today).

Eric Barkley is not walking through that door.

Should the 2003 team have hung it up after they lost in the first round of the C-USA tournament?

I don't think anyone is "coveting" an 11 seed.  Think of it as a silver lining should MU lose today; or better yet, a consolation prize.  You may lose the Showcase Showdown, but at least you're going home with a free trip to Tahiti.  Just make sure you don't get sunburned when you get there.

Wow, I'm very concerned for Benny.  Being able to mimic Myron Medcalf's writing so closely implies an oncoming case of dementia.

Correct...that was unacceptable.  How could they ever dream of getting to the sweet 16.

Spoken like a true quitter. This statement exemplifies why I love this year's team, they are quite the opposite of quitters.
