I've been pretty pleased with our guards, as of late. But Buycks  seems sloppy out there, in the Pitt game it showed. I do not want the ball in his hands late in the game. He's good for about one ridiculous fancy finger roll for every bad shots he takes, I'd rather see what Junior can do out there since we are counting this year in his eligibility. Am I just being too hard on Dwight, what do people think?

I think you're being too hard on Dwight.  While it's clear he makes some mistakes, he has improved his defense and he was the only player aggressively taking it to the basket at the end of the PITT game.  He made some plays and actually gave us some hope of coming back.

I'm not knocking Cubillan at all, but if we want to see Cadougan out there more I would much rather sub him in for Cubillan than Buycks.

Buycks is really good getting into the paint off the bounce.  His assists per minute show how that penetration works.  Could Cadougan be as effective?  I can't tell from what little I have seen from him.

That is offense.  Defense there is no question Buycks is better right now.  Until the Pitt game, we haven't really struggled much on offense.  Our problem is normally defense so I imagine that is Buzz's priority for most games.

That said, if Cadougan could be effective, would like to see him get some limited minutes coming up.  We have a lot of short turnarounds and it would be nice to use a little more bench to give the starters more rest (I am talking 5 min per game for JC).

I still cringe everytime he touches the ball.

I'm starting to think Junior won't get anything more than a minute or two the rest of the season. What a waste of a year.

Daniel

Buycks' moves to the rim are much needed on this team - if he can control his passes more, he will be more complete.  D has definitely improved too.

+1
Junior wasted a year of eligibility.

About Junior: It's funny how Buzz had mentioned in a recent press conference that it was probably his fault for not getting more time for the other players since the big three were the focal points. So, why isn't Junior just getting a minute here or there? EWill got two min, albeit an unproductive two, but still two nonetheless.

Buycks makes me cringe as well. He's in a better place shooting the ball, but when he tries to make something happen with the ball in his hand, I'm almost resigned to him turning the ball over, forcing a bad shot, or not doing anything but dribbling through and passing out.

Gosh, I felt just the opposite at the Pitt game.  I thought Dwight was the only guy who knew what he wanted to do, driving to the hoop and pressuring the defense while everyone else was lost.  He was three of seven from the floor on a night that noone else could hit anything.  On defense I think he is our best guard - he seems much stronger than the others against BE guards, and strong enough to grab rebounds.

I think the only tradeoff is that Mo and Cube never turn the ball over, and DJO and Buycks do, which I'd expect with them both being first year players.  If they both protect the ball better next year, I believe they will be great options to play along side Vander Blue, and let's just hope Junior is just not at 100% yet.
The www.valueaddsports.com analysis of basketball, football and baseball players are intended to neither be too hot or too cold - hundreds immerse themselves in studies of stats not of interest to broader fan bases (too hot), while others still insist on pure observation (too cold).

GGGG

Buzz wants a lot of dribble-drive motion elements in his offense.  Buycks and Mo are really the only two who can dribble and dish like that offense requires.  Next year, we will have a number of guards that thrive in that type of system.

I agree with this. I thought he was aggressive in a good way, though he does sometimes get a bit out of control once in the lane. (Reminds me a bit of someone who later scored the most points in MU history.) As for more turnovers from DJO and Buycks than Mo and Cube, I think it does have something to do with them being first year players, but it also has to do with the fact they they get into the lane, where the defense is generally tighter. Mo and Cube rarely dribble drive.

Good question; pehaps the coach should bve accountable for this. He loves giving the minutes to the midgets.

i like him a lot-feels like a veteran presence when he's in except last 2-3 games.  i don't know if he got entangled in the buzz-saw for something?? you'd a thought the dwightster pantsed buzz in front of the media err something...  diminished playing time has lead to what looks like he's either pressing to hard not to make a mistake, or miss a shot??  he has one of the best mid-range jumpers on our team.  buzz-man needs to keep the biker up and all players for that matter-cannot afford to play mind games with players heads at this point of the season
