Some thoughts on the game
« on: February 14, 2007, 10:02:03 PM »
-obv. free throws were terrible but nothing new-MUST be turned around
-didn't play defense in the first half-40 points to a middle of the pack depaul team
-the zone defense that depaul played late baffled crean and the players, both possessions against the zone were awful
-good news is they were still in the game late and if a few free throws go the other way (Depaul also is terrible at free throws but they hit big ones down the stretch) the game may have been different
-Was ozze sick or why didn' he play?

good news?
nah.
against Georgetown that comment holds salt.
against a second tier team at this point in the season, negatory.

Crean said nothing about Ooze being sick.  Just that he didn't play well today.

Beantown, I think you hit all the key points right on the head.  First half defense and missed free throws hurt us more than anything, and DePaul's switch to a zone confused the heck out of us for a couple of huge trips late.

The Journal-Sentinel had Ooze starting and playing 30 minutes, which is about normal for him.  I missed the first few minutes of the game but when Ooze went in with around 10 or 12 minutes to go in the first half, the announcers said something along the lines of it was the first time that Barro played and made mention of how he usually starts, so I didn't think he started.  Whatever the reason, he played poorly last night for the first time in a long time.  He and the big 3 guards combined for 16-48 from the floor and 12 turnovers.  Not a recipe for victory on the road.

Calvin:  Nobody thinks I'm a genius.
