Blah blah, no. Remember when he slammed Butch? He calls it like he sees it, I like him.

context?
He has made little cracks on marquette for years.  Didn't mention one positive thing about Marquette tonight, and during the highlight/ recap of Butlers last shot, talked about a kemba walker airball.  Maybe its not just Marquette, rather that he is just the most cynical commentator I have ever seen.

They also talked about Dyson who injured his leg/foot right before hitting that 3...then they showed DJO's pump fake where he got fouled and he said "sure he didn't fall on his head? Stupid foul". Does he hate UConn too?

Like I said, that's how he is. He doesn't sugarcoat things. If teams/players do something stupid, he says so. I enjoy him.

EDIT: Just showed Gonzaga highlights, losing to San Francisco. Jay Williams talked about how the fans shouldn't have chanted overrated, he said they'll lose now and again. Gottlieb chimed in that they almost lost to Santa Clara, and now lost to San Fran. "No way they are the #8 team in the country, that chant was appropriate."

You starting to get my point?

I understand your point, I just disagree.

I don't think there is anti-Marquette bias from Gottlieb however I have the same problem with him that I do with Dick Vitale...

If you listen to Vitale, 80 teams would make the tourney.

If you listen to theftmeister Gottlieb, 20 teams would make the tourney.

I also love when he says a team isn't very good, they go to the Elite Eight, and he doesn't give them kudos (Mizzou last year comes to mind).

Eye

I actually like Gottlieb. He was only announcer I heard that correctly stated U of A choked in losing to Illinois in the Elite 8 in 2005 when everyone else was entralled with the Illinois comeback.
GO WARRIORS!

Well, you have to admit, Walker's airball was a really, really dumb shot.

I was wondering the same thing, Gottlieb came off as a total jag.

Maybe it is a case of him just being a jag all the time and I only notice it with us as Mu states?

Seems that more times than not, MU does not receive a great deal of praise on ESPN as a whole. Maybe I am just blindly partial.

Tulsa Warrior

You listen to Gottlieb enough and he will steal your heart.  ;)

Yesterday, they got "The Lead" bottom line treatment pretty much all day....one of their commentators said that they finally got their last minute win.

I'm not sure how much praise a bubble-NCAA team should get anyway.

______

that A-Hole Len Elmore hates MU and when he does a game he has nothing positive to say.

Gottlieb is a very insightful analyst and can be brutally honest.  Sometimes he reminds me of Billy Packer, who could be downright mean at times.  I really don't think he has anything against Marquette as he can be mean to anyone.  Pitt fans were all over him after he dissed them last year.  Boeheim won't even speak to him after he has criticized Syracuse for years.  I think he sometimes plays bad cop to Andy Katz, who in my view has been very favorable to Marquette.

Also keep in mind that Gottlieb was born in Milwaukee and was recruited by Mike Deane when he transferred out of Notre Dame after the fraud incident.  He and had some very nice things to say about MU before choosing Oklahoma St.

Husker4MU

I like Gottlieb - he actually speaks his mind.  He does a weekly ESPNU podcast that's pretty solid.  He talks for 45-50 minutes straight about basketball and provides a lot of good insight without worrying about who he is offending.  Katz on the other hand is just a jocksniffer looking to make buddies with coaches and players.  He has a podcast on ESPNU as well and it's full of lame-a$$ interviews with lay-up questions so guys can get some pub for their programs.  Case in point - his shilling for Tom Crean for EVERY job opening so Crean could parlay that into yet another raise.

Better take your shots now.  He is doing PX90 and will be completely ripped in 48 days.
