First- I hope that this loss and going 4-12 from deep will get them back to their game, which as we know in Buzz's words is PAINT TOUCHES.  All this talk about MU being the #1 3-point shooting team in the country needs to stop, we can't encourage this team to rely on shooting the 3, esp early in the shot clock.  DJO and Buycks were only a combined  2/8 from behind the arch.

Second- How about Stovall coming off the bench and scoring 6 of his last 9 points within the last 30 seconds of the game.

Tough Loss- Bring on CUSE

Disagree 100%.

You can get a paint touch and still shoot a three pointer.  That's actually the best way to do it.

4 of 12 tells me less about shooting a low percentage and more that 12 three point attempts isn't enough for this team.  And if Buycks and DJO took 8 of them, it's especially bad to have had four total attempts between Lazar, Acker, Cubillan, and Butler.  Should be more like 10.  No need to pretend it's better for us to try pounding it inside and getting stuffed against players twice our size or take rushed and contensted jumpers instead of working outside and taking what for this team is actually a higher percentage shot.

chapman is right, get the paint touch and kick it out. I may be wrong, but I haven't seen more than a small handful of plays that Buzz runs to create the three-point shot. Buzz wasn't expecting to have a sharpshooting team, and a lot of the three-point attempts are created off of the intended play.

I am totally in agreement with you about 3 point shooting. When I read in the Journal Sentinel that we were #1 in the country in three point shooting, I knew it was a bad sign. You cant live and die on three point shooting. How many games have we won or been close to winning, due to the team shooting 3's at an amazing rate, a lot. Did anyone really think that kind of percentage would last for the entire year. Once Depaul shut out the outside shot we had no answer to break down their defense.

Actually, you *can* live and die on three point shooting.  That's the problem with it sometimes.

I have no problem with open 3's.  For a quality shooter, an uncontested 3 off a kick out can still be a high % shot.

What makes me feel a little uneasy of late is the disproportionate number of times penetration results in a kick out.  Ideally, penetration can lead to (a) finishing at the rim, (b) getting to the line, (c) dish and finish, or (d) kick and 3.  Does it seems like we need to recalibrate?  Or is it just me?

Regardless, Buzz has always impressed me with the way he was able to conjure up an inside game in the absence of a big by getting "paint touches" and "making more FT's than they shoot".  Looking forward to the Cuse game to see what adjustment they make next.
