Tony LaRussa says while unlikely, if the Cardinals are in contention come August he would consider reactivating Mark McGwire as a pinch hitter.  McGwire will be serving as the teams hitting coach this season.

As crazy as LaRussa is I really think he would do it.

Because when you have a chance to use a 46 year old career .263 hitter who hasn't played in 9 years, you have to do it.

LaRussa is insane.  I could see him doing it, because in his head, he thinks it gives Mac a second chance after steroids tarnished his career.

LaRussa always is saying Mac should be in the Hall of Fame.  McGwire doesn't even come close in votes however.  I could see him somehow thinking this fixes things.

I think it's dumb as it would take a roster spot away from the team but LaRussa is crazy.

Maybe he is not talking about pinch hitting in a game.  Maybe Larussa's car requires a certain BAC before he can start it.  He probably figures as long as it's not a piss test Big Mac would pass.

This is definitely stupid (even thinking of pinch hitting him) but I think McGwire should be in the HOF.  Roids were so prevalent in that time that it is impossible to know who did (nearly everybody) and who didn't, but that's not saying it was right becuase it definitely wasn't.  I'd say put them all in (Mac, Bonds, Sosa, Palmeiro...etc) and let people sort it out down the road.  If you want, put something on their HOF plaque or something in general somewhere (this player accumulated stats in a time when steroid use in MLB was prevalent and rampant).

The HOF voting is the biggest joke in sports, and that is not hyperbole.
