Recap: West Virginia

Morgantown, W. Va. -- "Did we look like the 12th-place team out there tonight?"

That was the rhetorical question lobbed in my direction as coach Buzz Williams made his way out to do his post-game radio show in the wake of his Golden Eagles' tough 63-62 loss to the No. 6 West Virginia Mountaineers on Tuesday night at WVU Coliseum.

Of course, Williams was referring to the pre-season prediction the Big East's coaches had made as far as MU's eventual finish in the 16-team league.

QuoteFrustration of losing a game it looked like you had won: "It's tough losing a game like that, knowing we could have come in here and beat the No. 6 team in the country. We fought, we did a lot of good things, some things that weren't so good that we can learn from, and we've just got to be a little bit tougher. Take better care of the ball, and make sure we know that we don't have a big margin for error. But we can definitely take some good things from this as well."

He's right, and I love that he knows it. I really hope we can put something together this year because I want to see Lazar go out in style. He's been a fantastic ambassador for Marquette.

And he's right again here:

Another last-second loss: "You can't hang your head. Great players have short-term memories, and we've got to get back to work. We'll be OK. I'm not worried at all. I think we'll be fine. We've just got to keep working the best that we can."

Sounds like someone prepping for the NBA.

I like how Huggins gave props to Buzz. Coach definitely drew up a great game plan and the kids followed it.
But give credit ultimately to the kids: we wouldn't be crowing about missed FTs if they weren't milking the clock, hustling for the boards, HITTING THE 3s... it'd easily be a 15 point margin.
