...and it's NOT Brian Butch--lol

Vander BLUE sitting by the edge of the student section was very dangerous yet a great chance for everyone to rip on Vander.  Thing is, he's too talented for UW.  I managed to sneak in a Vander sign beforehand and represent the REAL WI basketball team playing in a REAL conference.

See below.  And yes, Mr. Maymon (T.C.) was loving every minute of the sign.  Vander loved it and Buzz did a smile and head bob before the game.

I was also in that student section MrRivals. I loved your sign. Did they make you cut your sign in half?

I thought it was great when Mr. Maymon took all the a-hole chants thrown his way.

Oh man... being an MU fan in the badger student section. That's a scary place to be. I did it two years ago, in facepaint and a baby blue jersey. I thought I was lucky to make it out alive!

GGGG

Was it Vander that the students were giving the "pretty boy" chant too?

That was pretty classless on UW's part.

LovinCrowder

Well, they have always been and will always be.... classless

wardle2wade

A+... your sign was very well done.

I was sitting two rows behind VB just to the right.  I saw him walk down the aisle just before the students first saw him. I thought, "hmmm this could get interesting."  sure enough, their taunting started, you flipped open the sign, VB saw it, and he gave a nice fist pump with a very genuine grin.

It was a very memorable moment, and made me very happy to be a Marquette fan.

Throughout the game while the students were chanting a$$hole and worse, one thought kept going through my head... those classy students just put on a huge chip on Vander's shoulder, not that he needed it.

Assuming he is the competitor his accolades suggest, Vander Blue is going to come out like a man possessed when they meet next year.  There was no need to light a fire under VB to improve, but those chanting students absolutely sealed it.

Fire it up Marquette!

Yea the UW Paul Blart staff tried everything they could to rid that sign.

First, they said it was premade, and I said how could that be with the excellent security at the site.

Then, they said there was a rule about a sign being a certain size.  Now they were totally pulling things out of their rear ends.

Then, they assigned a security guy to watch me the whole game and make sure I don't tape it back together.

Wow--this was rediculous, but at least the MU faithful were loving it.

I pray to God you are still in junior high school. It's one thing to love your team, another to love your team so much you lose sight of yourself.

Condescension is cool.

C'mon, doing something incredibly courageous/stupid is a rite of passage.   He can live off of this story for the rest of his life.    Well played, young man.
Luke 6:45   ...A good man produces goodness from the good in his heart; an evil man produces evil out of his store of evil.   Each man speaks from his heart's abundance...

It is better to be fearless and cheerful than cheerless and fearful.

Yea, people can say what they want.  But what you said for one doesn't make sense either way.

The few MARQ fans at the game liked it so I hate to say it, but you're in the minority

I'm 95% sure that's Mo's dad.

MUfan12

Gotcha. Figured it wasn't, but from that angle it looked like him a bit.

Meh... sometimes the demand of the public to be entertained outweighs simple modesty.  This wasn't some kid snapping pictures of himself and posting them to the web (plenty of that on Facebook and Youtube) -- the sign (and the back story) made this a unique, and bold, display of fandom in enemy territory.

In other words... if there was an MU fan with a Vander Blue sign sitting in the second row of Buckyland, that's unique, interesting, funny, and dang it, I want to hear about it.  I don't care if it comes from the sign holder or not.

Wow, I'm very concerned for Benny.  Being able to mimic Myron Medcalf's writing so closely implies an oncoming case of dementia.

MrRivals150

It's not like I just woke up and decided to wear yellow, I've been rooting for MU all the way.

Here's a meaningless Badgers v. Ohio St. gameday game from last year
-at least the Marquette yellow flodded the ESPN screens

MrRivals150

For everyone that's saying "Vander seemed disinterested or that he showed no desire for MU" it's b/c he wanted to keep a low profile b/c he was clearly vulnerable in enemy territory.

People say 1-star Duje Dukan (UW 2010 recruit) was seen with UW gear jumping around enjoying himself.  Obviously, he's at a home game and they are beating a quality opponent.

If this game was at MU, he'd be wearing MU colors and feeling more comfortable.

Imagine a Red Sox prospect sitting in the hostile stands at Yankee Stadium.
