to pick up his third foul was a critical mistake.

with all the talk of Butlers missed free throws, Ackers ill timed fouls etc, Buzz certainly did not help the situation. No way Zar needed to come back in with so little time left in the half. He comes in and literally draws the third right away. That was a crucial mistake by Buzz.

I think Lazar, as a senior, has to be trusted in that situation not to pick up a silly foul.  And the reach was a silly foul.

trusting someone is fine.  but the negatives in that situation far outweighed the positives.  We were already up 12, an extra bucket there by lazar means little, but with him picking up his 3rd foul, it very much affected the outcome of the game.  who knows when a ref is going to call a ticky tack foul on you, even if you are being extremely careful.

Big Papi

Very bad move by Buzz but I don't think that 3rd foul affected the game much.  Of course it ended up being a 1 point loss so it could have cost us the game so did a lot of other things.  Zar did come out smoking in the second half so it didn't affect his shooting and it was 5 minutes into the second half that we made our run to stretch the lead to 17 so Zar wasn't lacking aggressiveness offensively or defensively.  Once the game was at the 10 minute mark with us still holding a double digit lead and Hayward still only having 3 fouls, the extra foul didn't matter too much.  Still a bad move by Buzz.

it absolutely affected the game... if you go back and watch the tape, you will see that Zar had to sort of stand there on defense rather than contest the shot for the first half of the 2nd half... at least.

Absolutely right. It affected his defensive tenacity.

Eh...  Buzz trusted him.  And he lived up to that trust.  Kind of moot since he didn't foul out.

Bigger I think was Maymon going down hard.  After he cracked his head on the floor, that took one more guy out of the rotation.  Which also contributed to the lack of energy at the end (stress contributed).

Putting Lazar back in before the end of the first half was a mistake by Buzz.  I don't think that it was the back breaker by any means for us in that game, but from a simple basketball perspective it was an unnecessary risk to take.  We were up by 10-11 or so with a minute and a half left in the half... no need to put a guy back in who has 2 fouls on him already.  A poor decision by Buzz, but as I said plenty of other things turned out to be bigger concerns than that decision.

I think the third foul on Lazar was the key to the game. We spent the rest of the game trying to protect him. Of course Lazar should not have attempted the three pointers he took after I lead started disappearing. Many were with a lot of time left on the clock.

I thought it was a bad move as well.  I understand trusting your players, but I have no idea how you trust officials.  He had two pathetic fouls called on him in the first half.  I really like so much of what Buzz does as a coach, but I have no idea why he put Lazar back in.  MU was holding their own without him, and they had a decent lead at the time Lazar was put back in.

Zar had just picked up his second foul, one that he had protested loudly.   Up 10, let him sit.   Buzz put him back in and the third foul was predictable, if not inevitable.   It was a weak call, but it is what it is.   Lazar should have sat with a 10 point lead.

i did not have a problem with putting him back in.  the issue i had was when we hit the three buzz should have called a time out and then sat him,  hayward has a penchant for picking up ticky tack fouls.

and for those that say it was a moot point becasue he did not foul out are misled.  he did not foul out becuase he was passive for most of the second half which hurt the team.

i love buzz but i would have called ato after the make and got him out, zar has proven for all his ability he picks up silly fouls, his second one included
