While filling out the scholarship table to add Reggie Smith, I realized two things...

http://www.muscoop.com/index.php?page=8

1) I completely forgot that DJO has 3 years of eligibility!  It'll be nice to have him as a senior leader in 11-12.

2) I'm torn for the last scholarship in 10-11.  Looking at the table, I'd think Buzz would want to grab a JUCO so that 3 guys leave after 11-12 and it balances the classes more.  However, he'll want a big (since he want a PG and a big in every class).  Unfortunately, we've had limited success with JUCO bigs developing enough to help the team.  Also, it doesn't really help the big-man pipeline to add a second big to graduate with Otule.

I guess that thought process leads me to believe he'd rather bank the scholarship than add a JUCO big, however, I suppose there's still the chance to nab a 4 year transfer guy in the spring, or take some juco that explodes.

We'll see what Buzz has up his sleeve.

Either a wide body JUCO or another project at the 5.

A transfer at mid-season or bank the schole for 11-12.

I am holding out for Maurice Walker. The fact that Pitt is the leader means nothing. That is the only school he has visited. Get him to visit MU and he will not be scared away by Otule and Mbao.

That ship sailed a long time ago.

Get a Juco big to balance out the classes.  If anything, it makes practice more competitive and provides a realistic look to prepare for games.

I don't think Otule, Mbao, Fulce, and a random JUCO big will deter a potential stud big man in the 2011-2012 class from coming in here and starting right away.  To be honest, if I was a big man I would not want to show up at Marquette and practice only against Burke.  Having more big guys could actually be a selling point for Marquette as a place to develop and practice right away.

Getting a stud big guy is important in the next few years.  If we get a stud big man in 2011 and assuming Blue stays past soph year, JP Tokoto would have to take a closer look at MU when discerning his offers from the elite schools.  That could be a team that wins it if all the recruits live up to their potential.

I disagree with balancing classes.  Transfers / early departures to the NBA and its all out the window.

Transfers...that's a hard pill to swallow. I'd hate that.

Early NBA departures? Bring them on...that'd mean we had NBA talent which would mean awesome studly recruits. :)

It's bound to happen, better to just accept it.  When I was going through the data for Rob's posts about recruiting on CS, the number of incoming recruits that transferred was staggering.  Something like 1/3 of all incoming players in the Big East from 2005-2008 ended up transferring, in some cases more than once.  That's just the way the game is today.
