I find it interesting that this suit was settled not long after UNO decided they no longer wanted to stay in Division I.  I am not a lawyer but that would certainly tell me about their commitment to their program if I was on a jury.

Buzz:

Williams said in his suit against the school that he "quickly learned that UNO was either unwilling or unable to provide even the basic necessities for a competitive men's collegiate basketball program."

Judge to UNO: Can you tell me why this claim has no merit?

UNO:

The combination of budget cuts, the failure to pass an increase in student fees and a lack of fundraising efforts has prompted UNO to look into moving its athletic program from Division I down to Division III status.

That would mean UNO would not offer athletic scholarships and would completely alter the state of the program.

Sounds like a settlement was the best option.
