The prevailing thought I've seen from people is that the transfers are bad, but midyear ones are really bad. That a kid would leave because he was promised the world/lied to/subbed too often. In other words, it's all on the coaches.

My question is this- When is it ever going to be the kid's fault? Why are they blameless? Why is it the coach's fault, when it could easily (and likely) be a lack of patience and perspective by the kid and his family?

To me, leaving at semester screams of impatience, be it from the kid or his handlers.

We do not know how sick Reggie is. I am assuming he was expected to be out for a significant time and then would be behind the 8 ball when he came back. Based on that he might as well transfer now than waste a half of year in which he will not play anyways. The Maymon situation is totally different. Maymon had to go before his father destroyed the whole team.

I think it makes that comment in the Marquette Revealed series a little more profound.  in the episode where they were preparing for Duke or Gonzaga in KC one off the coaches asked Reggie "Why is it that you just don't want to be coached today?" (I was paraphasing - not actual quote)

If I'm a kid in that situation - not satisfied with my role on the team and I can positively identify it as the source of my unhappiness - I'm going to transfer as soon as I can.  It makes a hell of a lot of sense to be where you want to be for an extra semester than it does to phone it in for half a season.

Mid-year/post-season, really makes no difference in my mind.  You learn different things at different times.

Good for him that he identified it.  I wouldn't look into it any more than that (I'm not going to).

Reggie was barefoot, therefore he was going to be the one that transferred.  Or perhaps he was wearing the white suit.  Regardless, Paul is dead.
I'm like a turtle, sometimes I get run over by a semi.
