Good article on the hurdles left. It sounds like they want to keep only 13, but with Korver sidelined they would have to keep Wes.  Also he could get cut anytime till Jan 10 when contracts become guaranteed.

Good thing is they sound like they won't be going the waiver route.

Assuming Wes is still with the team at this point of the season...

$457,588  ;D

Don't forget the additional perks like $106/day per diem on road trips, endorsements, etc

video of ronnie price talking about wes.  Sounds like the team really likes him and respects him.    there is a blue and gold difference.

The site has a video of Sloan talking about Wes from today.

Geez... Sloan sounds like he loves to talk to reporters.  From that it sounds like Wes is still there and that's about it.  They definitely would prefer to be at 13 players it seems like, but I don't think that is possible right now.

Congrats go out to Wes.  It's tough making a NBA opening day roster as an un-drafted rookie.

This makes my tickets for the Cavs/Jazz game on November 14 look even better.

Apparently $457,588 for your first year in the league.  If he manages to stay on for next year, the min is $762,195 for a 2nd year player in 2010-11.

Too bad I wasn't born with mad bball skills.

Don't forget to add in a game day per diem of around $300, money from licensing for videogames, basketball cards, posters, etc. that can go into six figures, appearance fees and, most importantly if you can stick around a few years, an NBA pension.

Wes is going to be around on the Jazz for a while with Korver having surgery on his knee.

This is a real break for wes to prove his skills while korver is recovering

The Jazz were quoted again today saying they were not sure how many they would open with on the roster, and with the economic woes from the country spreading to sports, it is possible they could cut further.  However the five cuts to make Wesley one of the 14 players on the roster sure feels good, and means he is purely fighting the economy to be on the team, having dispatched of Syracuse's Paul Harris and 2nd round draft pick Groan Suton of Michigan State and three other veterans for the 14-man roster.  The lead blog on the Jazz website lays out a great case for why Wesley should stay, including quotes from Coach Sloan and Deron Williams.

The www.valueaddsports.com analysis of basketball, football and baseball players are intended to neither be too hot or too cold - hundreds immerse themselves in studies of stats not of interest to broader fan bases (too hot), while others still insist on pure observation (too cold).

great find, bama.  The people commenting on that blog also seem to like Wes quite a bit.  I hope he makes it!

Nobody can or will say how long Wesley Matthews will be staying in Utah, but the undrafted rookie from Marquette will be on the Jazz's opening night roster.

"What I would say is he's on the team for a while," Jazz general manager Kevin O'Connor said Friday.

Congrats Wes!

The best part about this.. is in the next update for NBA video games.. you will be able to play as Wes... love it

I hope the "for a while" turns out to be a long, long time for Wes.  So far so good!  Confrats Wes on getting this far - hang tough still!

PuertoRicanNightmare

This was a great example of a "perfect fit" for Matthews, right down to the coach. Matthews is a Jerry Sloan type of player. I think Wesley can be a poor man's Tyrone Corbin for the Jazz.

mviale

Poor man's Ty Corbin? Wes is an excellent get for any NBA team.
You heard it here first. Davante Gardner will be a Beast this year.

Corbin played in the NBA for about 15 years, Dr. Naismith. I'd say Matthews would sign up for half that good of a career.

If you do want to check out the Jazz, they open the season on ESPN Wednesday night.

Here's his line from tonight in Utah's loss against Houston...looks like Utah was in crazy foul trouble

Wish my NBA league pass wasn't blacked out for that Utah/Houston game otherwise I could have went to the times when Wes scored.  Nice job for him!
