The only beef I had with Katz was putting Crean's name out there for every coaching job to the point where you thought he was trying to sabotage our recruiting to help the Badgers.  I'll admit that being way too paranoid, and most if not all of it having some merit, and I've since defended him for awhile now.  This shows once again that he does his homework, knows hs stuff, and contrary to those who can't see through his alma mater isn't biased--unless maybe he favors MU a little to prove a point to the haters.  You won't find another writer that has written such a well researched, knowledgeable opinion of our team this year, especially if you look to the national media.

Many on the board developed misgivings about Katz because he's a UW grad and he had TC putting his name out there for every coaching vacancy. Turns out the info was straight from the horse's mouth and Crean was using Katz to either get a new job or get raises and extensions from MU. Classic case of killing the messenger.

So when he says the Buzz Williams hire was a gamble and others of us here said the same thing (a gamble and a risk) and we were RIPPED by people here for saying that, was he just wrong that one time?   ;D

To steal a bit from Bob and Brian:

There's a reason that we're called fans (fanatics) and not logs (logicals).  Knee jerk emotional reactions are par for the course.

I agree with this (fanatics), but I don't like that as an excuse for silly/stupid behavior.

We should challenge ourselves to see sports for what they are; entertainment. We should have a good grasp of the realities of the sports entertainment business (media, coaching, marketing, endorsements, contracts etc.). I know some people chose to ignore these realities, but I think those people tend to overreact or use emotion instead of logic when discussing sports and specifically their favorite team.

Passion/emotion is good (we all love our teams), but logic is important, otherwise you're just another rube that will never get over (insert painful loss here) and will always think that (insert famous former coach) was the greatest thing to ever happen to the franchise/school and everything else pails in comparison.
