Great Soccer Match tonight at Valley Fields
« on: September 01, 2009, 04:41:25 PM »
7:05 start time.

Men's soccer sets the tone for the 09 season against UWM tonight in the Milwaukee Cup.   If you're in the neighborhood stop there it should be good entertainment.

Is this the season opener?  Do we think this is the turnaround season finally?

Season Opener.

It should be the year things get cooking, imo.    Defense is BE level, all depends if these young kids we got and the returners can turn up the goal scoring.

Marquette wins 1-0 on a goal in the 84th minute!

Calum Mallace hit an unbelievable free-kick from about 25 yards. Keeper had no chance, hopefully they put video up on the website. Honestly, it's as good a goal as I've seen in a college game.

Yep.  Mallace is a stud.

Marquette controlled a lot of the action especially in the first half.  Thought it was a fair outcome.   MU still has more to prove as far as their attack is concerned.  Good start to the year though.

Slightly OT- Has anyone heard anything about how fundraising is going for the soccer stadium?  Or is the project dead?

Good to see the men win the first of the year.

I remember working the games a lot from '05 to '07 and I would rather have had it be a woman's game, they were a lot better and had a chance to win.

I wish them the best of luck though.

Ah, brings back memories of the last-second womens' winner against Madison in 05. At least what memories I have left of that night...

They dominated play in the first half.  Second half they were unimpressive(and still only allowed UWM one shot on goal for the match).   If you're expecting Roma out there for American college soccer it ain't gonna be there.

Seems like they're pretty far off despite a few large contributions from one guy and of course ole Lotion & Crimson.

Honestly I wouldn't move forward with that project until or unless they have a proven winner at MU as coach (hopefully that will be Bennett).

I saw bad decisions, poor passing and a lack of offense. From what I saw... 'they dominated' may be a bit of a personal statement.
