(I'd normally post this on www.crackedsidewalks.com, but I don't want to risk costing the Ellis family any contributions by pushing the golf tournament down to the 2nd story the day before the event.)

With the conclusion of the 5-game NBA summer league in Las Vegas tonight, I am holding my breath to see what the Kings think of Jerel and Wes.  Certainly they are no shoo-ins to make the team, but I did want to note one stat in which each excelled during the mini-season.

Wes was questionable due to injury going in, and only got in two pretty full games and one partial.  However, Wes had the 24th best scoring average of any of the 276 players that played at least 50 minutes.  He was on pace to score 27.5 points per 48 minute game played.

While Jerel did not score much, he was one of only 14 players to record at least three multi-steal games.  There were four players, led by the Bucks' Brandon Jennings and the Warriors Stephen Curry, who had multiple steals in FOUR games.  However, Jerel was one of only 10 players to record multiple steals in THREE games. He was also one of a minority of players who registered steals, blocks, rebounds and assists.

Here are the lists on these two fronts:

PLAYER NAME   Pts per 48 min
Anthony Randolph (GSW)   39.2
Chase Budinger (HOU)   38.5
David Monds (LAL)   35.7
Nick Young (WAS)   34.6
Marcus Thornton (NOH)   33.5
Eric Gordon (LAC)   33.3
Anthony Morrow (GSW)   33.2
Darren Collison (NOH)   32.3
Cartier Martin (GSW)   32.3
Quincy Douby (TOR)   31.5
Rodrigue Beaubois (DAL)   31.4
DeJuan Blair (SAS)   31.3
Tyreke Evans (SAC)   30.5
Adam Morrison (LAL)   30.4
Carlos Powell (PHX)   29.6
Andray Blatche (WAS)   29.3
JaVale McGee (WAS)   28.8
Jodie Meeks (MIL)   28.3
Jawad Williams (CLE)   28.2
Dante Cunningham (POR)   27.9
Blake Griffin (LAC)   27.8
Gary Forbes (DLS)   27.7
Jerryd Bayless (POR)   27.6
Wesley Matthews (SAC)   27.5
Wayne Ellington (MIN)   27.2

Multiple Steal Games

4 of 5 games with 2+ steals (4 players): Brandon Jennings MIL, Stephen Curry GSW, Toney Douglas NYK, Mustafa Shakur LAL.

3 of 5 games with 2+ steals (10 players): Jerel McNeal SAC, Anthony Randolph GSW, Marcus Thornton NOH, Rodrique Beaubous DAL, George Hill SAS, Julian Wright NOH, Jonas Jerebko DET, Javaris Crittenton WAS, Smush Parker TOR, Bobby Jones POR.

Good luck guys - we are all pulling for you.
The www.valueaddsports.com analysis of basketball, football and baseball players are intended to neither be too hot or too cold - hundreds immerse themselves in studies of stats not of interest to broader fan bases (too hot), while others still insist on pure observation (too cold).

MU gimp ONE

hopefully...  i know they didn't light the nba on fire in those 5 games, but i know those two can be solid contributors to any team.

can anyone explain how the summer league works for signing... can players get offered contracts at anytime now, is there a set deadline date to sign one of the kids, is there a set date where they can't offer before?  i'm just wondering when i should start listening to hear new about jerel and wes.

Both Jerel and Wes have a lot of developing to do before they are "solid contributors."

Players can be signed at any time. Jerel and Wes will probably be in camp with some team, and then sent to the D-League or opt to find a team in Europe.

i apologize as i didn't mean solid contributors from game 1 this season.  i meant within their careers they will be solid.  they would be worth taking to let develop as their body of work says a lot for what they could give a team.
