Picking our loss to NDSD as the biggest upset of the year so far. Dang that hurt...

:'(

dwaderoy2004

that's not a slam...in a way it's a backhanded compliment.

ozmetal71

Yeah, that is a back-handed compliment.  And, so far, it is a true comment as we are ranked #15 and in position to possibly win the Big East, and yet we lost at home to NDSU.

It is wierd to see teams whose big wins are against Marquette.  Not too long ago we were on the opposite edge of that ledger.

Marquette84

I think Davis' comment is a bigger slam on NDSU.

Has anyone else noticed that NDSU has moved UP in the RPI over the last two weeks?

They're currently ranked #110.  Two or three weeks ago, they were somewhere around 125.

They've got five in a row coming up against some pretty marginal competition, then finish with four straight at home, where they're 9-1 on the season (with the only loss to K-State).

Its not inconceivable that they finish with a top 100 RPI ranking.

Yes beating MU was an upset, but I don't think there's a lot of space between NDSU and some of the better low-majors like Winthrop or Delaware State.

Seth Davis may also be doing a little cover your a**.

Right before the NDSU game he picked Marquette as a Final Four team. From that point on, until the Pitt game he was down on MU. He specifically mentioned that MU was overrated and would not be able to keep up with Pitt.

MU made him look bad...twice. By calling the NDSU the biggest upset of the year, he can fall back on his, "See, I told you MU was good early on...if it wasn't for that huge upset, I wouldn't have doubted them. Now that they are back on track, it just goes to show how big an upset it was."

Agreed.

NDSU is currently 13-6 and in first place among the independents (which is not saying much). They lost to TTech by 4 and KSU by 2, and are on a 5 game winning streak. Not a BAD team, but still a bad loss since it was at home. I'm sure it's not going to weight THAT heavily when seeding MU...IF MU keeps up the winning.

Of course, even if we win out and grab a #1 seed, the lead will go something like "Despite a loss at the Bradley Center to North Dakota State, Marquette picked up a top seed in the 2007 NCAA Tournament..."

Eye

Good wins always have more positive effect than bad losses have negative effect in the RPI. Neutral-court wins over Texas Tech and Duke, the blowout over WV and the win at Pitt all trump the bad loss to NDSt.
GO WARRIORS!
