Tim Floyd to Arizona
« on: April 01, 2009, 09:47:49 PM »
Have to say I'm not that impressed with the guy. I know he's had some success, but I don't think he's gotten the most out of his talent.

Can't believe the PAC-10 doesn't have a rule about coaches switching teams in conference.

I'm a Tim Floyd fan.  Not a fan of his school jumping though and you're right he didn't get a lot out of his teams the last couple years.

I think he is the luckiest man in America. After the debacle with the Bulls, he has still gotten great jobs. And to his credit he has done a good job.

Are you kidding? He was seconds away from beating MSU to advance to the Sweet 16. He won the Pac 10 tourney this year.

I thought he got a lot out of his team this year.  Many injuries but in the end they were playing very very well.  They were a bubble team that he took to the conference championship and won, also won a NCAA game and gave MSU all they could handle.

Southern Cal finished 9-9 in Pac 10 play.  With talents like Daniel Hackett, Demar DeRozen(TOP 3 FROSH) and Taj Gibson I had them in the sweet sixteen.   He had his guys finish strong though, not terrible but I thought Floyd could have got more out of em.

I predict Floyd's out in 5 years.

He IS a recruiter, but he's not really noted for his coaching.

But if recruits is what gets you there, then - if he gets them - he may be there for a while.

Those Zona-USC match-ups are going to be hell-acious!!!

Surprised at this hire. He got half of his recruits at USC from OJ Mayo who called Floyd up out of the blue basically and recruited himself. OJ then went to town bringing others in. Not sure he is going to get it done at UA.

Now the PITT people are worried.  Reports have USC making major pitch for Dixon, their #1 priority.

Not a done deal yet:

http://insidesocal.com/usc/archives/2009/04/more-floyd.html

Apparently he was offered but has 24 hrs to decide. Some think he is doing this simply to get more money out of SC/make a statement about whatever is currently upsetting him.

I know Dixon is a west coast guy, but is USC a better job than PITT?

If he really wants to get back to the west coast, I guess it's a good move, but when comparing jobs on paper... PITT has become a pretty nice program. (nice arena, great conference, only basketball team in town, some decent tradition, etc.)

Dixon is from LA......his father was a writer in Hollywood.

Not a stretch to bring him back....if I was dixon i'd go as he'd get a ton of dough and a program that could attract some high major recruits.

Los Angeles weather vs. Pittsburgh weather, Hometown vs. Steel City, let's see........I'm sure this is very hard for Dixon to decide........................

How much time does an NCAA coach really spend at home... Stick with the more successful program.

Then again, those USC Song Girls are pretty hot.

A bit off topic, but on HBO this week they have the story of Jamie Dixon and his sister who passed away as the coach of Army.  It's on the Bryant Gumbel sports show.  Good watch if you have the time.

Great story on a wonderful family.  I like Dixon and I think USC would have a great deal of appeal to him if the opportunity presents itself.

Confirmed by numerous media.  He is staying at USC.  Who now?  Dixon?  Capel?
