When it comes to "legendary" performances from MU players, I believe we'll be talking about Lazar in years to come in the same vein we talk about the guys on in the subject line of this list. That's why I think he's a player.

Lazar needs a monster game against Missouri to match what Travis did in the first two rounds against Holy Cross and Mizzou. Travis' stats those first two days were sick.

I'm hoping this team mirror's what happened that first weekend in 2003, win a close game in the first round, then take Missouri out in the second (although I can do without the overtime).

I agree, but keep in mind Hayward had fully half our points in round one, when the rest of this supporting cast brought nothing. I'd put that performance up against Diener's vs. 14 seed, non-scholarship Holy Cross any day of the week.  Because of his position, Diener also controlled the ball and therefore his shot. Hayward's came in the flow of the offense. It was MASSIVE game by him and anything resembling it on Sunday puts him in legendary discussion. That's my point. And, as usual, I'm right.

Holy Cross started offering scholarships again in 1998 and was the driving force behind the change in the Patriot League's policy.  By 2003 they were no longer "non-scholarship"

As for the comment that the rest of the supporting cast "brought nothing", that's a bit unfair to Utah State's game prep and coaching.  They put together a game plan that called for containing Matthews and McNeal.  That means there is a chance for someone to step up (much as Butler did versus Villanova).

Yes Hayward stepped up--credit for that.  But let's not make it out like he did it singlehandedly.
