Just to counter the other thread.  I don't expect it to be a "easy" game.  But a lot of the comments sound like they did before Marquette played @ Georgetown.

Even without DJ, we're a more talented team that should have no problem going into Boise and beating Utah St.

Now, if we go cold, and they get hot, of course we could lose.  But that's the same with any tourney game.  Based on everything I've read about them, and know about us, we should not have a problem getting past the first round.

Bring em on!

Actually the other thread didn't say we would lose, it only said it will be a tough game.  I believe we will win as well, but it will be a tougher game then some are saying.

Count me as one who's not taking anything for granted, but was much more concerned with last year's 6-11 game against Kentucky than this year's matchup with Utah State.

MarquetteDano

Count me in as well.  If you look at our losses this year, sans the USF debacle, they were all athletic teams.  One could make the argument that Pitt isn't the most athletic team out there, but they are a phenomenal team.  Utah State does not appear to have the horses to compete.  If they were a Top 10 defensive team I would be more concerned.  They are not.

We win this by 10+ points.  Though, it may be close with 5-7 minutes to play.

Big Papi

They are seeded 11th for a reason. We are seeded 6th for a reason

They only made the tourny because they won their tournament.

What is the best team Utah State beat and compare them to all of our losses.  South Florida is the only loss that Utah State would be favored in and even that might be a toss-up.

We are the better team and should win.  It doesn't always happen that way but the odds are on our side.  To say this will be a tough game is dumb in that any team with a 13 seed or better would be a tough game.  Only the 16 seeds are considered near locks to lose.

It is interesting to note that certain posters will post threads with the tinge of a negative slant and rarely posts ones without a backhanded compliment and vice verse so I guess the question is will this board ever truly get over Tom Crean?  Or is that too much to ask?

ChicosBailBonds

Oh stop.

First, my bet is they would have made the tournament regardless if they won or lost against Nevada.  29 wins, an RPI BETTER THAN OURS, etc they would have gotten in.

Second, we are the better team and we should win.  But to say it's a tough game is "dumb"?  What's dumber, saying this will be an easy game or a tough game?  Sorry, but I think you're attacking the wrong posters quite frankly.

I'm sorry if I think this is a tough game and actually stated so on an opinion board.  Game is in their backyard, they won 30 games, they are mature, well coached, etc....still think we should win but think it will be a tough game.   If you take that as a backhanded slap at a coach, I don't know why.  I said the same things about Holy Cross, Bama, Kentucky....was I or others taking a backhanded slap at Buzz with concerns about the Holy Cross game?   ::)

Listening to ESPN540 on the way home just now.  The D-List guys noted that Stew Morrill  is 1-12 in the post-season with 0-6 in the NIT and 1-6 in the NCAAs.  For what its worth.

They need to provide a little context.  They beat Ohio State a few years ago.  They lost to Kansas by 1 or 2 points (KU went on to the championship game), a few other very close games.  Maybe we blow them out, that would be great in my book.

I suspect they play heavy zone, milk the clock to the very end and try to make it a game where every possession is absolutely critical.....much like the Holy Cross game.

FWIW, my bracket has the Warriors beating both Utah State and Missouri.

I think we tone down the arrogance. utah state is ranked 25. how they got an 11 seed and arizona, the last team in, got a 10, is beyond me.

no one knows how this game will play out, but for karmas sake do not call it easy. wasn't there a thread stating that we had the four seed in the big east all but locked up after gtown beat villanova? don't tempt fate again.

So does mine, it must be a way of being negative toward Buzz   ::)

I'm not an expert on these matters, but I'm pretty sure the thread about MU having the 4th seed locked up had no effect on the season finished.
And I've got a feeling that 1,000 threads predicting a 20-point shellacking of the Aggies won't cause Marquette to lose.

Oh, and expressing one's belief that Marquette, the higher-seeded team, will defeat USU, the lower-seeded team, is not arrogance.

FYI Arizona is a 12, behind the USU not a 10.  Still I would put them ahead of 10 seeds like Maryland and Minnesota.

u can say what you want, just be warned. predicting a win is one thing, but 20 points is another.

its the same reason pitchers sit alone during no hitters and u don't say anything to the guy with 8 strokes or the guy who is under par through 15. its science.

and yes, I like to think sports karma took a look at this board, who happened to declare ourselves the number 4, and gave us a little kick downwards. you mess with the bull, you get the horns. please. do not mess w the bull.

mubball2009

oh, and yes, predicting a team like MU, losers of 5 of 6, to beat a team like utah state, a top 25, 30 win team, by 20 points is indeed arrogance.

I sure hope they win by 20 and I will be rooting for them to do so. if it isn't  arrogance, then I invite anyone to make a mu -19.5 bet. won't take you long to find takers on the plus side.

We're doomed.

I was cruising over on the Utah state boards and if you take what their fans say at face value they were robbed.  Should've been a 3 seed at least.   WAC champion.  Beat some pretty good teams including number 25 Utah in a home game.

After blowing by Marquette, they'll wipe the floor with Missouri with the help of their amazing fan base in Boise before going on to defeat Memphis in their first true test of the tourney.

Seriously, I predict MU to score a lot of points in the paint and at the free throw line.  I think if the refs call a close game it favors MU.  I think the first half will be close and MU should run away with it in the second half.  Buzz will not need to call a lot of time outs. ;)

MUWeb7

I'll admit...I'm playing the arrogant role for this game. We win this no problem. I just don't see USU being as good as advertised. They've played nobody and have had some close games against mediocre WAC teams (aka...they are no Memphis). Bottom line: If they played in the Big East they wouldn't have made the tourney.

Second thought, I don't see it much as arrogance, as us playing a team that we should beat. We shouldn't even have to play great...just good.

MU talent > USU talent.

Plus their fans...after reading their board...yawn. They think they are the next great thing since sliced bread.

Utah State is EVIL and must be DESTROYED!  ;D

Count me as one that agrees with that statement.

i guess one can come on hear and start a thread about how difficult a game it will be and how great there coach is and then defend oneself about how it is not a negatively slanted post.  that is fine may be it would hold a drop of water if every other post did not contain the smae passive agressive slant.  Dont seem to recall the same slant from that same poster when we were upset by a lower seeded team in 2002, 2006, 0r 2007.  just dont seem to remeber them but i am sure the Tulsa ata 12 seed scares me and on and on.

bottom line is Everyone of our starters would be the best player on Utah State, we will be road warriors as we have all year, we aint playing a #1 seed and if we do i like our chances anyway.  Some people can go thru life being a devils advocate at every turn others know we will got in and battle our asses of and win!!  MAybe you can play devils advocate against Mizzou, but i like our chances against them too...or who ever we might play in the second round!!  We are MArquette...who cares who we play!!!
