Remember, Coach Layer was part of the staff that recruited Seth Curry to Liberty last year before he joined Buzz. 

Curry can definitely play at this level, maybe Layer can recruit him all over again.

I would be all over this guy, we could use a 2G for next year, he has had a year of playing D1 basketball, and he can clearly score. I know it was only Liberty, however he did average 20+ points a game which is impressive for any freshman anywhere

I think this would be a huge "get" for the program. A nice high profile recruit who can obviously play and has some pedigree.... it will be very interesting to see how this one plays out.

I'd take em, there should be little doubt the kid could contribute here at MU but I would be surprised if he left the south east as his mom and dad go to both his and stephen's games regularly.

If he lands in the Big East it will be on of the teams truly in the East, not the Midwest. He's from North Carolina, if I'm not mistaken.

For a freshman that had the ball as much as he did, that's not too bad.  Imagine redshirting him for a year and bulking him up, though.  

I know it's definitely a longshot, but considering the connection to Layer and the lineage (look at his Dad and brother), I think we need to make a run at him.

I understand we are not talking about his brother, however this kid is only a freshman right now, with a year to sit out and bulk up and work on his shot, he could be a very good 3 year player. I just don't see how we couldn't at least take a look at him.

I also know that he is from NC, but I didn't think I saw a rule in the NCAA rule book anywhere that said that players from the east couldn't come to MU. I am not saying it is a lock that he comes here, but I am just saying that we should pursue it.

Curry had offers from Virginia Tech and Davidson.  Like his brother, he was a late bloomer.  His shooting numbers, percentage wise, really are no different than what Dominic James did as a freshman.  Also, a kid does not usually jump that quickly out of a program like Liberty unless he's gotten some very positive feedback from other programs.  His rep is certainly going to help him out here, but all in all, it's quite different than Acker's situation.

Not only that, but Acker was given more of a green light to score and shoot.

Curry can benefit from a year out to strengthen himself and develop his game. Sitting out a year worked for Wade, albeit under different circumstances.

Acker's freshman year stats at Ball State:

31.7 min, 9.2 PPG, 2.4 RPG, 4.6 APG, 32.6% FG, 29.8% 3PT, 79.6% FT

For comparison, Acker shot 29.7% FG and 28.8% 3PT this year. 

Curry's freshman year stats at Liberty:

36.5 min, 20.2 PPG, 4.4 RPG, 2.3 APG, 41.7% FG, 34.7% 3PT, 83.2% FT

There is a way to compare Curry's performance against a similar Big East player.  Obviously Liberty doesn't get the same quality in CONFERENCE play, but we can easily find a BE team with a similar NON-CONFERENCE SOS. 

In fact, checking Ken Pomeroy's SOS figures, we have an excellent comparison with Villanova:
Liberty's Non-Conference SOS was 177
Villanova's Non-Conference SOS was 176.

I'd say that's a pretty strong basis for comparison.  If we use only Non-Conference numbers, Curry will have faced similar competition to Corey Stokes and Corey Fisher.

Against that non-conference competition:
Curry shot 46.5% overall, 40.4% on treys.
Stokes shot 42.8% overall, 42.9% on treys.
Fisher shot 41.7% overall, 34% on treys.

And that's considering that Stokes and Fisher had a far superior PG in Scottie Reynolds feeding them AND both Stokes and Fisher had stronger supporting casts.

Based on this comparison, I'd say Curry is a good get.

Not saying he is the next Stephen Curry, but I would rather have him than some of the guys we are recruiting.

kind of pipe-dreamish, but he'd fit what we need right now quite nicely...a combo guard, hopefully a shooter like his brother and father, and a nice high-profile recruit.
