Tom Crean's Tanning Bed

ACC:  Maryland beats Wake.

Atlantic 10: Temple knocks off Xavier, Dusquene takes out Dayton.  Temple-Dusquene in the final tmrw night.  Winner takes out a bubble team.

Big 10:  Wisconsin, Michigan, Penn State, Minnesota all lose today.

Big 12:  Baylor-Mizzou in the title game.  Baylor win pops another bubble.

SEC:  Florida, South Carolina, Kentucky lose tonight too.  Auburn in the semis vs. Tennessee winning 9 of their last 10.

The General has taken on a new command.

Hmmmm, Wisconsin to the NIT?

I wish, but they still finished 5th in a conference that will get 7 bids (despite how ridiculous that is).

romey

They belong in the NIT.  How about one and done in the big dance though?

18-12?
19-12??

sorry. imo not deserving-
compare to a Prov, ND, Cin, GTown, even SH who play 3-4 top 10 teams weekly... 5-6 top 25 teams weekly... and still have a similar (somewhat for GT/SH) record.
folks are talking KY not being in, but WI will be...
why??

GO WARRIORS!

UW has ZERO claim to a bid. On a neutral court Providence blows them out, and Georgetown, Cincinnati and even Notre Dame would beat them.

UW and Providence did have a couple of common opponents:

MU beat UW by 3
MU beat Providence by 9

UConn beat UW by 19
UConn beat PC by 33

Plus, Wisconsin probably had the edge in their non-conference performance.  It's 3 losses came to solid NCAA teams--MU, UConn and Texas.  PC's non-conference losses came to bubble teams like Baylor, Boston College, and St. Marys.  Not to mention Northeastern, which is on the NIT bubble.

The only argument for PC is their win over Pitt.  The qeustion you have to ask is whether you believe it is indicative of how both teams play?  Or is it simply an upset--much like USF's win over MU?  I think its the latter.

At some point, one has to go with their head rather than their heart.  If you do that, you have to admit--much as I don't like it--that UW deserves a bid more than Providence.

You might have a close argument comes to Minnesota and Michigan--the 7th and 8th place Big 10 teams--versus PC.

There goes another bubble:  USC beats Arizona State to win the Pac 10.

The refs handed USC that game....the last two minutes were a disgrace.

Never mind the fact that UW's best non-conference win was against Virginia Tech.  The Big Ten is a joke this year.  I just listened to the ESPN Gameday staff rip the Big Ten stating how they play very little non-conference competition and then beat up on each other in-conference so no one has any clue how good the conference is.  Digger made the point that if Michigan State is clearly the best team in the conference and they lost to Northwestern at home and looked terrible today against Ohio St. how good is the conference.  They pull the same crap in with their football schedules, and the fact that they travel well makes them valuable to the NCAA.

Digger Phelps is your source of authority?  Seriously?  That's good enough to end it right there.

Did he forget that Illinois victim Missouri is now a top 10 team?

Did he overlook MSU played Kansas, UNC and Texas, losing only to UNC?

Michigan (T7th place) played Duke twice, UCLA, and UConn and came away with a 2-2 record.  But the Big 10 plays nobody, right?.

I guess Minnesota (T7th) didn't play anybody decent non-conference as well--their sole big win was against some no-name program called Louisville.  Oh, wait, Louisville isn't a nobody--they're the the Big East champ.

Lets insert some common sense on the board.  If someone is going to argue that PC deserves a bid because they upset Pitt (and they don't have much else going for them), doesn't it stand to reason that the Big 10 deserves to get Minnesota (on the basis of beating Louisville) and Michigan (on the basis of beating UCLA and Duke) into the dance as well?

Those non-conference wins are exactly why the Big Ten will get as many as seven teams in.  They do deserve it.  The problem to me is that they just don't pass the eye test.  It just looks ugly.  That is why I don't think they'll get more than 1 or 2 to the Sweet 16.

Put it this way...I can see MU will a first round match up with a team like Minnesota.  While I think we'd win, I think it'll be within 10.
