ok, so i still think we have a chance, albeit a small one, of winning our final three games.  if that happens, we can win the big east only with help.  we need the following to happen:

uconn loses both to ND and @Pitt
Ville loses either to Seton Hall or @WVU

now, i know a lot of you don;t want to do it, but you have to root for the domers tomorrow when they play Uconn.  if Uconn wins, we are officially elimated from winning the regular season title.

TJ

we can still win a share of the Big East regular season title if UConn goes 1-1.  we just couldn't be #1 seed in the tournament.

dwaderoy2004

i was going for outright big east title.  but yes, we would have the same conference record as UConn if they split their last 2.

Doris Burkes Thong

IMO, considering the circumstances(playing without James and playing two Top 5 teams at their place) if MU won their final 3 games in conference play it would be a helluva a lot more impressive than their run to the Final 4 in '03. In fact, it would be right up at the top this program's biggest accomplishments after the 1977 NC. I would be in complete utter shock.

MuMark

We have a 2.5% chance of winning all 3 games according to Pomeroy.

Lets try to win 1 and go from there...................

dwaderoy2004

i agree, but in the meantime, we want notre dame to win tomorrow.

We had our chance to win the Big East.  That, in all likelihood, ended on Wednesday night.  Wether James was injured in that game or not, losing that game ended any reasonable shot this team had to win the regular season conference title.

Even with James, winning 3 of these last 5 games would have been a pretty damn fine accomplishment.  I would have been thrilled with that outcome.

Now in order to win the whole thing, they'll have to win the next 3 in a row and get help.  I completely agree with Doris Burke's Thong.  Without Dominic James, winning the next 3 games in a row would arguably be, in terms of degree of difficulty, the greatest stretch of victories in Marquette Basketball history.

I'm not gonna be a pessimist and say it's not gonna happen, but it's not too big of a stretch to say that nothing like this in the history of this basketball program this has ever happened.

you are not being a pessimist if you say it's not going to happen.  but it could happen.  and as long as their are scenarios that remain for this group, I'm going to root for those scenarios to play out.

We lost our chance to win the Big East when we lost to South Florida. We lost our chance to get a first round bye when James broke his foot.

So bilsu, MU is going to magically finish above 8th in the BE?

And MU is still going to the NIT right?

romey

After that USF loss, many on the board downplayed it and said it wasn't that big of a loss.  I believe I called it a "very bad" loss, and was chastised.  I stand by my assertion.  Take a look at the standings to the left.  13-2 tied for second with three to go and games remaining against the team we'd be tied with and the team we're a game ahead of.  But, I know, I know "if's and but's" as someone reminded me.  The point is - it was a very bad loss IMO and I think many would agree.  Jump all over me if you'd like, but again, it's my opinion.

He is absolutely right...he just mistyped what he meant...

We lost our chance to get a first second round bye when James broke his foot.

what's your point?  that it was a very bad loss and we'd be in a better position if we hadn't lost it?  well thank you captain obvious.  but it also wasn't a death knell for the season that some were saying it was.  would it be nice to have that game back, certainly.  but i bet UConn would like another go at Georgetown, and Pitt regrets their loss to providence.  the truth is, we are still in a position to win teh big east.  past is the past, we can only worry about what lies ahead.

romey

My point is it was a very bad loss.  Many said it was not.  It was.  So now it's "obvious" that it was a bad loss?  You agree then?
