I may have mentioned this before. But with this injury now it appears unlikely that James will play in the NBA anytime soon. I still wonder if anyone has ever approached him about trying out for an NFL spot. It would seem that he could be a great D-Back in the NFL if someone were to give him a shot. He's used to guarding people taller then him and he has the leaping ability and speed to get to balls. I bet if he had grown up in Florida or Texas, he would have played a lot more football.

Seems more likely then Jamil Wilson committing to Marquette but that gets mentioned daily.

NFL drafts "athletes" all the time.  Renaldo "Skeets" Nehemiah was a track star (hurdler) and was drafted and actually played for SF years ago.  It doesn't hurt a team to draft someone of Dom's ability late in the draft.

I'm not saying drafted either, but maybe Bob Harlan could pull some strings and get him into Packers Mini-camp. Just saying if any position requires as little game experience it may be anywhere in the defensive backfield where instincts matter most.

every year there is 10's of athletes that can't quite make it into the nba who never get picked up by the nfl.  Naming a few exceptions won't convince me that this route makes more sense than going to europe and making a decent living over there.  Especially since he's hurt so he wouldn't even be able to work out for a team before the NFL draft. 

In no way is this more likely than wilson coming here.  And no i don't think wilson is.

I don't' believe I remember saying anything about specifically him making it, just someone giving him a look. That is all.

James was an outstanding football player in high school.  I believe he played quarterback and may have been all-state.

Nope, not a hater...you just dont get it.

You're really bringing up Antonio Gates?!?!?!

Gates = 6'4", actually recruited to play football at Michigan State.
James = 5'10"


I absolutely hate when people bring this topic up...a basketball player being able to play in the NFL, beacuse he is tough/athletic on the basketball court.  Antonio Gates does it and now people think its a given that someone can make the transition.

The game, the mentality, the skills needed to be succesful in the NFL are far and away different than what it takes to be a successful college basketball player.

Dominic James could NOT play in the NFL.  The number of reasons are plenty. I think people would be shocked at how slow he would be in comparison to actual NFL CBs.  Having a quick first step in basketball is nothing like being able to run or back peddle at the speed required to cover NFL WRs. 

This doesn't even account for the fact that he has not tackled anyone, does not have any sense of defensive football schemes, and does not have the body type of a CB.

I wouldn't say playing in Europe is a guaranteed paycheck, I have read many articles where those teams have stiffed guys on multiple paychecks.

With that being said I don't think even a sniff of the NFL is possible.  I like James a lot on the court, but I don't think his frame could support the NFL work load.
