I notice how Buzz left the interview area as soon as Bilas started to talking to Jerel.  Tommy Naismith would never have let McNeal be interviewed.  It was always all about him.  I am so glad he is gone.  What a pompous jerk.  Buzz is indeed a gentleman and selfless in the way he does his job.
In heaven Marquette always beats Wisconsin

I noticed that too. Most coaches are drawn to the camera like bees to honey. They interject themselves into their player's postgame interviews, saying, in effect, "Where would he be without me?" Buzz's attitude is "Where would I be without him?" Nice change.

Quote from The Chicago Tribune:

"Whether you play at home or you play on the road, if your mind-set is not right to compete every possession on both ends of the floor, you're going to get smacked," Marquette coach Buzz Williams said.

If we keep playing like we are, Buzz will be the buzz of the nation.

Forgive me if I missed this, but somebody told me that Andy Katz reported that Buzz was already on a list for the Arizona job. Any truth to that?

I'm pretty sure that was a joke... I haven't seen his name anywhere with AZ.

it's also nice for the first time in 10 years that our head coach does not have the biggest picture on the front cover of the media guide and the next 200 pages dedicated to his glorification.  A true steward of any program sports or other wise is more concerned with his flock than himself.  For that reason alone MU is better off with Buzz than the old coach.

and again I have no problem with him taking the Iu job I have a problem with the fact that he was always more concerned about himself than the people he emplyed and coached.

and i think a lot of people have a problem with you and certain other posters dissing him at every chance you get, will you ever get over it?

I know I'm wasting my time, but from the media guides I could locate I count two (02-03 and 03-04) (with another one where he's about equal).  Granted, that's two to many, but you get the picture.  For those who hated Crean, there's plenty of legitimate reasons to do so -- you don't have to make them up.

Post them.  Prove it.  But I know you're not much for proving your incorrect and baseless accusations.

Unless your "front covers" (your words, not mine) are different than the front covers they show in the Wiki and on Marquette's website, you're wrong.  Never mind the fact that Crean only worked for Marquette for nine seasons, and your original claim was "it's also nice for the first time in 10 years that our head coach does not have the biggest picture on the front cover of the media guide..."

Again, if you hate Crean, that's cool with me.  There's enough examples of his humongous ego without resorting to making things up.

Edited (why do I even bother) to add:

2006-07 Media Guide (http://wiki.muscoop.com/doku.php/men_s_basketball/2006) - No picture of Crean at all on the front cover (even though other coaches are pictured).

2005-06 Media Guide (http://wiki.muscoop.com/doku.php/men_s_basketball/2005) - No Crean.

2004-05 Media Guide (http://wiki.muscoop.com/doku.php/men_s_basketball/2004) - No Crean.

2003-04 Media Guide (http://wiki.muscoop.com/doku.php/men_s_basketball/2003) - Here's one with Crean as largest picture.

2002-03 Media Guide (http://wiki.muscoop.com/doku.php/men_s_basketball/2002) - Here's another.

I can't find a good image, but in 2007-08 Crean was roughly the same size as players (http://gomarquette.cstv.com/sports/m-baskbl/spec-rel/102207aan.html).

So, there's six of Crean's nine media guides.  Explain how I'm wrong and your statement that the coach as had the biggest picture on the front of the media guide for the last ten years.  You can't, because you lied.  And since you have all the media guides since the mid-60's, you can't even claim you were mistaken.  You flat out lied.

Come on people. He lied? Really? Do you think Hayward actually believes, or expected you to believe that Crean had the biggest picture on every media guide cover the last 10 years, and that the next 200 pages were dedicated to his glorification, or do you think that just maybe he was using some exaggerated hyperbole to make a point?

EDIT: Missed this one...

I am surprised that someone hasnt posted a complaint on this, saying that buzz's humble, shy away from the spotlight attitude will ultimately be bad for the program.

To add to StillAWarrior's post, here's last year's cover. Crean indeed is on the cover, but it appears to me that his picture is no larger than the others featured.

http://grfx.cstv.com/photos/schools/marq/sports/m-baskbl/auto_pdf/mbbguide_covers.pdf

But really, why let the facts get in the way of a good Crean bashing?

NavinRJohnson

Who cares what the cover of the media guide looked like? That was an exaggerated comment used to make a point. But, the reality is, Tom Crean was the face of the program. That is not unique to Marquette, but it was the case. There is no question that this year there are three faces of the program...

Would that be the case if Crean were still here? Or would the typical story line be all about how Crean turned down Indiana, or this job or that job to stay with these seniors, continue to build, blah, blah, blah?

Who knows?

And that's my point.  There are plenty of completely legitimate things to criticize Crean about (such as the fact that he even had his face prominently featured on any media guides) that it is totally unnecessary to egaggerate to make the point.  Some people like me who might otherwise be inclined to agree with Hayward (and we probably agree about as much as we disagree on this topic) are so annoyed by the hyperbole that we just can't resist jumping into the fray.  But, you know what they say about wrestling with pigs...

i love how another decent thread was killed by asinine remarks about Crean and the freaking media guides. thanks, Mr Hayward, you're such a valuable contributor.
