I thought our defense was poor last night.  It seemed they scored at will for most of the game - their shooting percentage was through the roof.

This may be better directed to Henry Sugar - what's up with the "points in the paint" statistic.  i know what it's meant to illustrate - they are getting the ball inside.  But, does the points in the paint number also include fast break points?  If it does, and I think it does, then the points in the paint stat is misleading at best.  A lay up on a fast break isn't the same as a post up move or a drive to the bucket from the half court offense.

It would include fast brak layups.
That's what I assumed, but my point is announcers use the stat to illustrate that a team is getting beat inside - that the defense is allowing penetration, but if you score 20 points in the paint and 16 of those are on fast breaks, then it doesn't illustrate that you aren't defending the paint.  It shows that your not getting back on defense.

All that is true, but we were getting beat on defense for easy shots every which way you can for about 30 minutes yesterday, so any graphic that showed us getting killed by points in the paint was right on the money.

I agree, it was very very frustrating watching our guys get beat off the dribble so easily last night.  I was very impressed with Fulce's aggressiveness on the offensive end but his defense needs some work, which I'm sure will come with time.  I was also very frustrated with Hazel's performance at the defensive end and at one point you can see Matthews genuinely frustrated with him in the first half.  The fact that we played so poorly on the defensive end of the floor and still managed to pull this one out says a lot about the character of this team and I really feel Buzz has them playing at a much higher level than TC ever could.

We got smacked in the paint last night.  They were scoring at will, and there seemed to be nothing we could do to stop them.  Then Buzz went small, and we created lots of turnovers in half two, and we won.  But still, Providence was fast - and they were blowing past us often - reminded me of Dayton.

But we won it.  Depiste all that.  Wow!  GO MARQUETTE!
