every top 25 team worse than 10th in the rankings lost tonight to an unranked opponent:
11 duke to ga tech (by 11)
12 butler to ill-chi (by 6)
20 tenn to vandy (by 1)
22 uconn to mu (by 4)
25 maryland to miami (by 5)

further... #10 ok st. got spanked by #6 kansas (by 30) and #1unc was down to unranked virginia through almost the entire first half.

if we take care of business on saturday we might find ourselves ranked again come monday.. personally.. not sure that that is a good thing for the team.. I kinda like being more under the radar..

Well, I'm hopeful that our team has already learned that just because people say you're good -- it doesn't mean you'll win.  A valuable lesson for a young team.

Ya, let's take our time with this ranking thing.  My outsider impression is that some of our recent troubles are due to some degree to certain players on the team buying a little too much into the hype them and the team.  Growing pains.  Remember, this is still a very young team we have.

I'd rather be in another situation like last year.  For the last month or so of the season we knew we were good enough and should have been in the rankings.  I think the final AP poll was around 28th, which we're at now after dropping the ball twice.  The team knew last year they were being overlooked and it only helped them.  This year's team doesn't have much of an argument to prove it's better than last year's team, but so far their lowest ranking is the same as last year's highest.

Week 17 last year we almost broke into the AP top 25 (obviously at #26):  http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/rankingsindex?pollId=null&weekNumber=17&seasonYear=2006

This year has been wild.  The best thing about being ranked, however, is getting on the "scroll" while watching other games/sporting events.

Win on Sat vs. WVU and we'll be back in the top 25.  Not that it matters but it is so much easier to get to our scores on ESPN when you can just click on top 25 rather than having to go to the Big East conference.

being ranked is nice because it puts the program in the national conscience.  Every newspaper has the Ap recaps.  Espn has the highlights or srollings scores and at least a mention.  So it has it's bonuses.  Saturday though is important to get to 2-2, NCAA tourey press and what it means to a program is far superior to being ranked.
