Marquette Announces Nationally Ranked Recruiting Class

Nov. 12, 2008

Milwaukee -

The Marquette University men's basketball program has compiled a consensus top-25 recruiting class for the 2009-10 season, first-year head coach Buzz Williams announced Wednesday evening.

Marquette's five-member class includes three student-athletes ranked among the nation's top-100 players and another who has been tabbed a preseason junior college All-America honoree.

"Recruiting is the lifeblood of any program and although every year is critical, I believe year No. 1 must establish what your program is going to be about," Williams said. "Losing the four seniors, three of which have become the face of our program throughout their career, forced us from a recruiting perspective to not only address their loss, but to insure we had balance within our roster. Thus far in our tenure here, we have preached the importance of toughness on both ends of the floor and our class is reflective of that."

Williams and his staff have assembled a group that consists of: DWIGHT BUYCKS (Milwaukee, Wis./Indian Hills CC), JUNIOR CADOUGAN (Toronto, Ont./Christian Life Center Academy), JERONNE MAYMON (Madison, Wis./Memorial HS), BRETT ROSEBORO (Quakertown, Pa./Quakertown HS) and ERIK WILLIAMS (Houston, Texas/Cypress Springs HS).

"In many respects, they are Big East ready and will all have to make an impact from the first day they arrive," Williams added. "It is rare when you take over a program to have four commitments prior to the completion of the summer and we were able to do that this year, and that is because of the daily commitment from our staff to develop trusting relationships with the best players in the state, and the best players in the country.

"I am not deserving of all the credit, because the assistants have been tireless in working to find the perfect fit for what we want our program to be about not only on the floor, but more importantly off the floor," Williams said.

MU's first recruiting class under Williams is currently ranked second in the nation by both Hoopmasters.com and HoopScoopOnline.com. The group is No. 5 on ESPN.com's list, 13th on PrepStars.com, rated 14th overall by Rivals.com and owns the 15th position on Scout.com's top-25 ranking.
